  • • Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance.
  • • Ensure accurate coding of conditions and procedures in accordance with ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and/or CPT Assistant under the direction of the HIM Coding Manager.
  • • Apply reimbursement methodologies to assigned charts to optimize reimbursement and resolve regulatory edits.
  • • Resolve error reports associated with the billing process, identify and report error patterns, and assist in designing and implementing workflow changes to reduce billing errors.
  • • Work within the Health Information Management (HIM) department at Rochester Regional Health, a mission-driven healthcare organization committed to quality, equity, and innovation.
  • • Develop expertise in clinical coding systems, regulatory compliance, and healthcare reimbursement while contributing to accurate data capture for patient care and financial integrity.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Active certification in one of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder Hospital Based (CPC-H), Certified Medical Coder (CMC), RHIT/RHIA, Radiology Certified Coder (RCC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Outpatient Coding (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), Certified Professional Coder-Payer (CPC-P), or any AAPC specialty certification (e.g., CASCC, CANPC, CCC, etc.), or Ophthalmic Coding Specialist (OCS) from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
  • • Associate’s degree in Health Information Management (required).
  • • Ability to obtain full CPC certification within 24 months if holding CPC-A at hire, or 36 months if obtained after employment; RHIT-eligible candidates may be considered if they sit for the exam within one year of hire.
  • • For homecare assignments: Homecare Diagnosis Coding Specialist (HCS-D) certification required within 16 months of hire.
  • • Proficiency with Care Connect, UDS, and Clintegrity systems for accurate code assignment and data entry.
  • • Consistent adherence to ethical coding standards (AHIMA), departmental policies, and productivity guidelines with 95% accuracy.
