  • • The Outpatient Facility Coder (Same Day Surgeries) role at TruBridge is critical to ensuring accurate medical coding and data abstraction for outpatient, same-day surgery, and select inpatient accounts, directly impacting reimbursement accuracy, compliance, and revenue cycle integrity for healthcare clients.
  • • This role supports TruBridge’s mission to optimize healthcare financial performance by translating clinical documentation into standardized codes that drive billing, reporting, and quality metrics, all while adhering to strict regulatory standards including HIPAA, CMS guidelines, and payer-specific contracts.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include assigning ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for inpatient cases with precision, ensuring correct DRG determination based on clinical documentation and site-specific guidelines.
  • • For outpatient and same-day surgery accounts, the coder accurately applies CPT codes and appropriate modifiers to chargemaster items in alignment with client contracts and operative reports.
  • • The role requires creating compliant physician queries to clarify documentation gaps, ensuring coding specificity and completeness without leading or suggestive language.
  • • Coders routinely review claims for medical necessity, validating that services rendered meet coverage criteria under payer policies.
  • • Updating patient problem lists in accordance with client contracts is a key function to maintain accurate longitudinal records and support risk adjustment and quality reporting.
  • • Assigning present on admission (POA) indicators correctly is essential for proper inpatient DRG assignment and hospital-acquired condition reporting.
  • • The coder provides responsive, professional customer service to both internal teammates and external clients, addressing coding inquiries and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • • A consistent demonstration of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork is expected, with active contributions to team knowledge sharing and process improvement.
  • • Flexibility to float across multiple client sites and coding specialties—such as outpatient surgery, emergency department, observation, and inpatient—is required, demanding adaptability and broad clinical coding proficiency.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Active AHIMA or AAPC certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or COC) is required.
  • • Minimum of one year of professional medical coding experience in hospital or facility settings.
  • • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • • Proven ability to meet or exceed established quality and productivity standards.
  • • Strong proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-PCS coding systems, with particular emphasis on outpatient and same-day surgery coding.
  • • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, compliant physician queries.
