- • The Packet Engineer at Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing the company’s extensive 141,000-mile network infrastructure across North America and Europe, ensuring reliable, high-performance communications services for enterprise clients in sectors including finance, healthcare, media, and technology.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing network performance to reduce off-net costs, performing maintenance window grooming of customer and network circuits, provisioning and testing voice services across multiple platforms (including SIP, PRI, CAS, GR303), configuring and decommissioning network devices in routers and data equipment, supporting field operations and installation vendors, researching new technologies, auditing network inventory for optimization projects, and mentoring junior engineers.
- • Zayo is a leading provider of mission-critical bandwidth and communications infrastructure, delivering dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access to carriers, enterprises, and content providers globally, with a focus on enabling innovation through reliable, scalable network solutions.
- • In this role, the Packet Engineer will develop deep expertise in legacy and modern voice switching systems (Metaswitch, Nortel DMS), gain hands-on experience with network optimization and circuit grooming processes, strengthen cross-functional collaboration skills with sales and field teams, and contribute directly to network efficiency and cost reduction initiatives while building project management and technical documentation capabilities.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 5 years of experience in engineering or planning transport networks using SONET, Digital Cross Connects, Wave Division Multiplexers, Ethernet, VoIP, voice switching, power, and common systems
- • Excellent customer management skills including verbal and written communication, prioritization, risk analysis, and conflict resolution
- • Experience with Salesforce and MetaSolv applications
- • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (equivalent work experience may be substituted)
- • Ability to work flexible hours, including availability between 12:00 AM ET and 6:00 AM ET as required for maintenance windows
