- • Step into the fast-paced, life-saving world of Post-Anesthesia Care at Christiana Hospital, Delaware’s only Level-I Trauma center and the region’s most trusted destination for critical care. As a Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) in the PACU, you will be the steady hand and compassionate voice that greets patients as they emerge from anesthesia, ensuring every vital sign, comfort measure, and safety protocol is flawlessly executed.
- • Your primary mission is to support the activities of daily living for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients under the direct guidance of an RN. This means mastering the art of gentle reassurance while performing and accurately recording vital signs, accu-checks, bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and safe mobilization. You will become the patient’s first line of defense against complications, spotting subtle changes and escalating concerns with speed and precision.
- • Beyond bedside care, you will serve as the unit’s communication hub, managing clerical duties that keep the PACU running like clockwork. From updating electronic records in PowerChart to coordinating transport and ensuring supplies are stocked, your organizational skills will directly impact patient flow and team efficiency.
- • Crisis response is woven into every shift. Whether a patient experiences respiratory distress, hemorrhage, or psychiatric crisis, you will initiate life-preserving interventions within your scope—applying oxygen, performing finger-stick glucose checks, or providing 1:1 observation for suicidal/homicidal ideation—then alert the RN for advanced care. Your calm under pressure will save lives.
- • You will champion ChristianaCare’s patient-safety goals by adhering to strict infection-control protocols, correctly labeling specimens, double-checking blood products, and reporting any unsafe conditions immediately. Your vigilance creates a culture where zero harm is not just a goal but an expectation.
- • Collaboration is key. You will partner with anesthesiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and environmental services to orchestrate seamless transitions from OR to PACU to discharge or inpatient units. Your ability to communicate courteously and clearly—verbally and in writing—will earn the trust of both colleagues and patients’ families.
- • Flexibility defines this role. Rolling evening start times of 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, or 3:00 PM allow you to balance work with life’s demands, while 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shift options ensure you can craft a schedule that suits your stamina and lifestyle. Full-Time Flex status guarantees 72 hours bi-weekly, giving you the stability of full-time benefits with the adaptability of varied shifts.
