Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Physical Design Engineer at Axelera AI, you will play a critical role in developing next-generation multi-core in-memory compute SoCs that power the Metis™ AI Platform, directly contributing to a 3-5x increase in AI efficiency and performance while supporting the company’s mission to advance humanity through innovative AI hardware.
- • You will support end-to-end ASIC physical design flow from RTL to GDS, including synthesis, floorplanning, place and route, extraction, timing analysis, and physical verification, working closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity and performance targets are met.
- • You will participate in constraint generation, timing optimization, and clock tree synthesis (CTS) techniques, applying industry-standard methodologies to close timing and improve power, performance, and area (PPA) metrics for complex AI accelerators.
- • You will integrate diverse IP blocks including memories, I/Os, and embedded processors into the SoC, ensuring seamless connectivity and functional correctness across heterogeneous components using advanced EDA flows.
- • You will work with industry-leading EDA tools such as Fusion Compiler, Innovus, Primetime, StarRC, Formality, and Calibre to execute physical design tasks, validate designs, and run signoff checks including DRC, LVS, and ERC.
- • You will write and maintain automation scripts in Python, Tcl, and Bash to streamline repetitive tasks, improve flow efficiency, and support continuous integration of design updates across multiple corners and modes.
- • You will debug physical design issues such as timing violations, congestion, and signal integrity problems with guidance from senior team members, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- • You will collaborate closely with architecture, RTL, and verification teams to ensure design feasibility, provide feedback on RTL for better routability, and validate that physical implementation matches logical intent.
- • You will join a world-class team of over 220 employees, including 49+ PhDs with more than 40,000 citations, operating across Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy, the UK, and headquartered at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, fostering a truly international and intellectually stimulating environment.
- • You will have the opportunity to grow your expertise in cutting-edge AI hardware design, contribute to a product with strong business pipeline exceeding $100 million, and advance your career in a fast-scaling deep-tech startup backed by $370M in funding.
🎯 Requirements
- • 1-5 years of experience in Physical Design or a related field, with internship or academic project experience considered.
- • BSc or MSc in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- • Demonstrated understanding of the ASIC design flow from RTL to GDS, including synthesis, place and route, timing analysis, and physical verification.
- • Hands-on experience with EDA tools such as Fusion Compiler, Innovus, Primetime, Calibre, and Redhawk.
- • Proficiency in scripting languages including Tcl and Python for automation and flow development.
- • Eagerness to learn, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, for effective communication in a multinational team.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Attractive compensation package including pension plan, extensive employee insurances, and company share options.
- • Open, innovative culture that encourages creativity, ownership, and freedom with responsibility in a collaborative team environment.
- • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering a warm and inclusive workplace where all backgrounds are welcomed and celebrated.
- • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI hardware with real-world impact, contributing to a product with strong market traction and a $100M+ business pipeline.
- • Flexible working arrangements with options to work from offices in Eindhoven (Netherlands), Leuven (Belgium), Porto (Portugal), or Bristol (UK), or relocate to the Netherlands with company support.
- • Access to a world-class team of 220+ employees, including 49+ PhDs, enabling continuous learning and professional growth in a high-impact deep-tech environment.
