• • As a Platform Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the Platform Collective, a team dedicated to building and maintaining the essential infrastructure, tools, and processes that empower all of Monzo's technology teams to achieve success.
• • This role is specifically within the Infrastructure Platform team, responsible for the robust operation of Kubernetes clusters, the service mesh, and the networking fabric that underpins all of Monzo's microservices.
• • You will leverage your expertise as a backend engineer and cloud infrastructure specialist, applying strong software engineering principles to solve complex problems and manage our critical cloud infrastructure.
• • The Infrastructure Platform team operates with two primary focus areas: firstly, building and centrally managing the cloud infrastructure that forms the bedrock of Monzo's technology, including components like Kubernetes and Envoy across AWS and GCP.
• • Secondly, you will actively support other platform teams by abstracting away infrastructure complexities, thereby enabling them to concentrate on solving real customer problems and delivering exceptional financial products.
• • This is a strategic investment for Monzo, crucial for supporting our ambitious growth targets, aiming to scale from 10 to 20 million customers, expand our product offerings to enhance customers' financial lives, and establish the foundational infrastructure for global expansion.
• • You will work across the full spectrum of our core infrastructure and application platform, with a balanced split between two critical areas: Platform & Infrastructure Engineering and Software & Backend Engineering.
• • In Platform & Infrastructure Engineering, you will be hands-on with our Kubernetes clusters, AWS infrastructure, and configuration management using Terraform, ensuring the stability and scalability of our core systems.
• • You will integrate and manage a variety of open-source components to provide robust, scalable primitives that serve as the foundation for our diverse engineering teams.
• • In Software & Backend Engineering, you will design and implement backend services, including APIs and controllers, to create a simplified, self-service experience for other engineers, abstracting away infrastructure intricacies.
• • You will develop software for complex, high-impact projects such as infrastructure migrations, advanced high-scale traffic management solutions, and the development of critical security tooling.
• • While direct experience with all our specific technologies is not a prerequisite, we heavily utilize Go for application code, Kubernetes for workload orchestration, AWS and GCP for cloud infrastructure, Terraform for Infrastructure as Code, and Envoy Proxy for our RPC service mesh.
