📋 Description

• As a Platform Engineer at Plasmidsaurus, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the scalable, high-performance infrastructure that powers the company’s mission to accelerate biotech research through faster, more affordable genomic sequencing. Your work will directly enable scientists worldwide—from academic labs to Fortune 100 pharmaceutical companies—to access sequencing data in hours instead of weeks, driving breakthroughs in medicine, agriculture, and climate solutions.
• You will design, develop, and operate backend systems that ingest, process, and deliver terabytes of sequencing data daily, ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency across a global network of laboratories and robotic sequencing platforms.
• Your contributions will support the expansion of Plasmidsaurus’ disruptive sequencing model beyond plasmids into RNA-seq and other genomics domains, helping to realize the vision of sequencing everything, everywhere, for everyone.
• You will collaborate closely with bioinformatics scientists to translate complex biological workflows into robust, production-grade software systems, bridging the gap between cutting-edge biology and scalable cloud engineering.
• You will architect and implement distributed systems using AWS services, infrastructure-as-code, and task orchestration tools to handle millions of bioinformatics jobs with fault tolerance and observability.
• You will develop and maintain RESTful APIs and data models that power internal tools and customer-facing analytics platforms, ensuring seamless integration between sequencing hardware, data pipelines, and user interfaces.
• You will work with Linux-based systems to deploy, monitor, and maintain on-prem services that interface directly with sequencers and laboratory automation hardware.

🎯 Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering or platform/backend development
• Proficiency with Python and full-stack web frameworks such as Flask or Django
• Hands-on experience with AWS services including Lambda, ECS, Batch, and StepFunctions for containerized task orchestration
• Strong background in infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or AWS CDK
• Experience designing and implementing REST APIs following best practices (e.g., OpenAPI)
• Solid working knowledge of SQL and data modeling in relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with Linux server administration, including systemd, networking, and deployment tools like Ansible
• Experience with distributed task queues such as Celery or Amazon SQS
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain scalable, reliable backend services for data-intensive applications
