- • As a Senior Postgres Engineer, you will dive deep into the complexities of PostgreSQL, leveraging your profound understanding of its internals to solve challenging problems and drive innovation. Your responsibilities will span from diagnosing intricate performance issues and debugging custom extensions to architecting and implementing robust deployment strategies for thousands of PostgreSQL instances. You will be a key contributor to ensuring our platform remains a reliable and powerful foundation for our users' applications.
- • This role demands a proactive and collaborative approach. You will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, including customers, partners, product managers, fellow engineers, and our support and success teams. Your insights and expertise will be crucial in addressing customer needs, resolving production incidents, and contributing to the overall roadmap of our PostgreSQL services. You'll be at the forefront of understanding and mitigating challenges related to multi-tenant architectures and the complex ecosystem of PostgreSQL extensions.
- • A significant part of your contribution will involve hands-on development and maintenance of PostgreSQL extensions. You will have the opportunity to build extensions using both C and Rust, pushing the boundaries of what's possible with PostgreSQL. This includes understanding extension compatibility, managing upgrade paths, and resolving potential conflicts to ensure a seamless experience for our users.
- • You will be expected to develop and own idempotent deployment processes, ensuring that updates and configurations can be reliably applied across a vast fleet of PostgreSQL instances. This requires meticulous attention to detail, strong scripting skills, and a deep understanding of automation and infrastructure management.
- • Troubleshooting will be a core aspect of your role. You will tackle complex issues in managed PostgreSQL deployments, including analyzing core dumps, diagnosing problems with custom extensions, and resolving performance bottlenecks. Your ability to quickly identify root causes and implement effective solutions will be critical to maintaining high availability and performance for our users.
- • You will also contribute to the evolution of our PostgreSQL platform by exploring and implementing new features and improvements. This could involve working with PostgreSQL's background worker framework, optimizing shared memory management, or leveraging the hook system to enhance functionality and performance.
- • We are looking for an engineer who is not only technically brilliant but also a strong communicator and collaborator in an asynchronous, remote setting. You should be comfortable navigating and reading PostgreSQL source code, possess a solid understanding of PostgreSQL's permission model (including RLS, roles, and grant systems), and have experience running PostgreSQL at scale in multi-tenant environments.
