Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Principal Analytics Platform Engineer at tem: A director-level individual contributor role responsible for owning the end-to-end analytics platform to eliminate data bottlenecks and enable trusted, self-serve data access across the business, directly influencing C-suite strategy and company-wide decision-making in a fast-growing AI-native energy infrastructure startup.
- • What the person will do day to day:
- • Own the end-to-end analytics platform vision by defining architecture, tooling standards, and strategic direction for data ingestion (using DLT), warehousing (ClickHouse), transformation (dbt), storage (Apache Iceberg/Parquet), and BI delivery (Omni), ensuring cohesion across data engineering, analytics engineering, and analysis functions.
- • Partner closely with data engineers, analytics engineers, and analysts to translate platform vision into execution, enabling domain experts to specialize while maintaining alignment on standards, metric definitions, and semantic layer development.
- • Build reliable analytics foundations by establishing repeatable analysis patterns, standardized metric definitions, data quality frameworks, testing protocols, and a trusted semantic layer so all teams operate from a single version of the truth.
- • Design scalable self-serve data access patterns through dashboards, embedded analytics, and direct tool integrations, reducing reliance on ad hoc requests and empowering teams to independently explore data for faster decision-making.
- • Elevate analytics from reporting to strategic partnership by introducing causal analysis, advanced analytics, and data science approaches that uncover root causes and recommend actions, positioning data as a driver of business outcomes.
- • Act as the primary liaison between the data team and the broader business, translating executive priorities into data initiatives and communicating data strategy in clear, actionable terms for the C-suite and cross-functional stakeholders.
- • Continuously evaluate emerging trends in analytics delivery — including LLM-augmented workflows, MCP-accessible data surfaces, and next-gen semantic layers — to keep the platform innovative and reduce team strain through proactive advancement.
- • About the team or company:
- • tem is a Series B-funded ($75M) AI-native energy transaction infrastructure company rebuilding global electricity markets for transparency, fairness, and decarbonization, with its RED product already facilitating billions in transaction value for thousands of business customers.
- • The company operates as a fully remote, distributed team across Europe with clear core hours and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons, fostering flexibility while maintaining alignment and collaboration in a mission-driven, high-growth environment.
- • What the person can learn or achieve in this role:
- • Shape the strategic data foundation of a rapidly scaling climate-tech startup, gaining direct influence over how a mission-critical industry leverages AI and data for systemic change in energy markets.
- • Advance expertise in modern analytics platforms by architecting and scaling a cutting-edge stack (ClickHouse, dbt, Iceberg, Omni, MCP) while solving real-world challenges in data trust, accessibility, and business impact at scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • Exceptional communicator: Equally at home with technical ICs and with the C-suite, can translate fluently between the two and make data strategy legible to anyone in the room
- • Full-stack analytics depth: Hands-on understanding of the modern analytics stack, from ingestion and warehouse architecture through transformation (dbt), semantic layers, and BI delivery; the kind that comes from having built and operated each layer, not just having opinions about them
- • Data standards that stick: A track record of establishing analytics standards the business actually adopted, repeatable analysis patterns, metric definitions, modeling conventions, data quality frameworks, and the communication skills to drive that adoption
- • Self-serve data access experience: Has built or designed scalable data access capabilities, semantic layers, BI tooling, embedded analytics, or equivalent, and understands what makes them succeed or fail
- • A clear POV on what good looks like: Can assess current state, identify the gaps, and articulate a credible roadmap without waiting for someone to define the destination
- • Startup experience that counts: Demonstrable experience navigating analytics challenges at an early-stage company, has been in the messy early phase, knows what failure looks like, and has built a way out of it
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary - our current band for this role is £130,000 or equivalent in local currency, reviewed twice a year using real-time market data with transparent, consistent pay for the same role and level
- • Stock Options - everyone on the team has ownership in our mission
- • 25 days holiday + public holidays - Swap public holidays for ones that matter most to you. Plus, get an extra day off for your birthday 🎉
- • Remote & flexible working - We're fully remote, distributed across Europe with clear core hours, and no internal meetings on Friday afternoons
- • Home working & wellbeing budgets: Up to £1,200 / €1,200 annually to upgrade your remote setup (co-working passes, equipment, etc.) and up to £150 / €150 monthly on anything that supports your wellbeing - from therapy to gym memberships to meditation apps
