📋 Description

• As a Principal Backend Engineer at Trading 212 UK Ltd., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of a high-impact financial technology platform serving over 4.5 million clients and managing more than €30 billion in assets under management. Your leadership will directly influence the scalability, reliability, and innovation of core trading and investment services used by millions worldwide.
• You will lead the end-to-end technical development of a critical business domain, from gathering and refining requirements through architectural design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing optimization. This includes driving the full software development lifecycle with a focus on performance, resilience, and long-term maintainability in a high-stakes financial environment.
• You will mentor and coach a small, autonomous, cross-functional team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By identifying individual strengths and providing targeted guidance, you will elevate team performance while maintaining agility and velocity in short release cycles.
• You will architect and develop backend services using a microservices approach, leveraging deep expertise in distributed systems, databases, messaging infrastructure, and cloud-native technologies to ensure low latency, high throughput, and fault tolerance under peak load conditions.
• You will proactively identify opportunities for product and system improvement, advocating for technical excellence and innovation that aligns with business goals, and championing best practices in code quality, observability, and operational excellence.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading the end-to-end development and release of complex, high-demand, client-facing software products in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor software engineers to deliver high-quality, maintainable code while fostering team growth and technical excellence.
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and building scalable, resilient services using microservice architecture patterns.
• Advanced proficiency in at least two programming languages, with strong preference for Java and/or Go as used in our stack.
• Deep expertise in relational database management systems (RDBMS), message brokers (e.g., Apache Kafka), and in-memory data stores (e.g., Redis, Elasticsearch).
