  • • Join the Healthcare Innovations team at American Institutes for Research (AIR) as a Principal Data Scientist to lead high-impact data science projects that address critical challenges in healthcare quality, costs, and access.
  • • Lead the strategic vision and execution of complex data science initiatives, design and implement cutting-edge AI/ML models, and integrate novel data sources such as geospatial and real-time data into research efforts.
  • • Serve as a senior technical advisor across AIR’s research domains including health, education, workforce, and international development, guiding scalable data pipelines and reproducible research environments.
  • • Mentor senior data scientists, represent AIR at external forums, author influential publications, and drive business development through proposal strategy and partnership cultivation.
  • • Work within a mission-driven, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization founded in 1946 that applies data-driven solutions to improve lives globally, with headquarters in Arlington, Virginia and flexible remote work options across multiple U.S. locations.
  • • Develop expertise in ethical AI, data governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration while advancing the field of data science for social good through rigorous research and innovation.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Computational Social Science, or a related field.
  • • Minimum of 11 years of experience applying advanced data science techniques to real-world problems, preferably in public policy or social impact domains.
  • • Deep expertise in machine learning, natural language processing, and statistical modeling.
  • • Proven track record of leading large-scale, interdisciplinary data science projects.
  • • Experience with cloud computing, big data technologies, and scalable infrastructure.
  • • Strong publication record and external visibility in the data science community.
