Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and deliver the embedded software that will power Telesat’s next-generation Lightspeed LEO constellation, directly shaping how enterprise customers around the globe experience ultra-low-latency, fiber-like satellite broadband starting in 2027.
- • Own end-to-end lifecycle of mission-critical embedded modules for user terminals and landing stations—from requirements capture through design, implementation, unit test, integration, and on-orbit support—ensuring every line of code meets aerospace-grade reliability, security, and performance standards.
- • Lead technical discussions within a cross-functional Scrum squad of RF, FPGA, hardware, systems, and DevOps engineers; drive consensus on architecture trade-offs, interface definitions, and test strategies while mentoring junior developers and documenting key decisions for future reference.
- • Develop high-performance C++ applications on custom embedded Linux distributions, optimizing for deterministic real-time behavior, minimal memory footprint, and maximum throughput under stringent size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints typical of satellite ground equipment.
- • Create reusable software libraries, frameworks, and diagnostic tools that accelerate feature delivery across multiple terminal variants and landing station configurations, reducing time-to-market and maintenance burden for subsequent constellation expansions.
- • Implement and refine industry-leading automated test methodologies—including hardware-in-the-loop rigs, continuous integration pipelines, and fault-injection suites—to achieve six-sigma reliability and enable rapid regression detection long before hardware reaches the launch pad.
- • Collaborate closely with network engineering to integrate advanced satellite communication protocols, ensuring seamless interoperability between user terminals, gateway modems, and the LEO constellation’s dynamic beam-forming and resource-scheduling subsystems.
- • Troubleshoot complex field issues reported from integration labs, beta customer sites, and live orbital trials; perform root-cause analysis down to hardware interaction layers and deliver targeted software patches with full traceability and configuration control.
- • Maintain rigorous documentation—architecture specs, API contracts, test plans, and user guides—so that firmware, hardware, and operations teams can independently build, test, and sustain the system throughout its 10-year operational life.
- • Champion a culture of continuous improvement by introducing modern C++ standards (C++17/20), static-analysis tooling, and secure-coding practices that raise code quality metrics and reduce defect escape rates.
- • Contribute to bid proposals and customer technical exchanges, translating complex embedded constraints into clear value propositions that secure new enterprise and government contracts.
- • Travel occasionally to international landing station sites and partner facilities to support integration campaigns, ensuring software performs flawlessly across diverse climates, power grids, and regulatory environments.
