  • • Own the end-to-end technical vision for LivePerson’s next-generation AI architecture, designing systems that will process and learn from over one billion conversational interactions per month across HSBC, Chipotle, Virgin Media, and hundreds of other global brands.
  • • Serve as the bridge between cutting-edge research and production-grade reliability, translating breakthroughs in Generative AI, Large Language Models, and Responsible AI into scalable micro-services that run 24/7 on our Conversational Cloud platform.
  • • Define reference architectures, data pipelines, and MLOps patterns that enable rapid experimentation while guaranteeing safety, compliance, and fairness for every consumer touchpoint.
  • • Partner with product, design, and executive leadership to translate business outcomes—such as reducing support costs, increasing sales conversions, and elevating customer satisfaction—into measurable technical objectives and OKRs.
  • • Lead a distributed team of senior engineers, ML scientists, and security specialists across North America, EMEA, and APAC, fostering a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and inclusive innovation.
  • • Establish governance frameworks that ensure every model released to production passes rigorous bias, toxicity, and performance audits, leveraging LivePerson’s uniquely rich conversational data set to set new industry benchmarks for trustworthy AI.
  • • Architect multi-tenant, cloud-native solutions on AWS, Azure, and GCP that auto-scale to handle traffic spikes during global product launches and seasonal retail peaks without compromising latency or cost efficiency.
  • • Drive the adoption of modern DevSecOps practices—CI/CD, blue-green deployments, automated canary analysis, and chaos engineering—so that new AI capabilities can be shipped daily with zero downtime.
  • • Create technical roadmaps that balance short-term customer value with long-term platform evolution, ensuring that each quarterly release builds toward a cohesive five-year vision for conversational commerce.
  • • Evangelize LivePerson’s Responsible AI principles at conferences, customer advisory boards, and open-source communities, positioning the company as the definitive leader in ethical, enterprise-grade Generative AI.
  • • Mentor principal-level engineers and emerging architects, providing actionable feedback, sponsoring high-impact projects, and building succession plans that scale leadership capacity across the organization.
  • • Collaborate with data privacy, legal, and compliance teams to embed GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 controls directly into the architecture, turning regulatory constraints into competitive advantages.
  • • Establish observability standards—distributed tracing, model drift detection, real-time feature stores—that give engineers and data scientists full visibility into system health and customer experience in under 30 seconds.
  • • Champion cost-optimization initiatives, leveraging spot instances, GPU sharing, and dynamic model quantization to reduce cloud spend per conversation by double-digit percentages year over year.
  • • Spearhead strategic proofs-of-concept with emerging technologies such as federated learning, differential privacy, and edge AI, ensuring LivePerson remains three steps ahead of market demands and regulatory shifts.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 10+ years designing and operating large-scale, cloud-native distributed systems with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML platforms serving >100M monthly active users.
  • • Expert-level proficiency in Python, Go, or Java, plus hands-on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX in production environments.
  • • Proven track record of leading geographically distributed engineering teams of 20+ members and influencing without authority across product, design, and executive stakeholders.
  • • Deep understanding of Responsible AI frameworks, model governance, bias detection, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2).
  • • Nice-to-have: PhD or MS in Computer Science, AI, or related field; published research in NLP, LLMs, or conversational AI; contributor to open-source ML or cloud-native projects.
