📋 Description

• As a Principal Software Engineer at Okta, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of identity and access management by leading the design and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems within the Onboarding and Lifecycle Management (LCM) Platform team. Your work will directly impact how organizations globally manage user identities, access policies, and provisioning workflows across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments, reinforcing Okta’s mission to make identity the foundation of secure and productive digital experiences.
• You will drive technical excellence by architecting and implementing core services for importing, syncing, and provisioning identities and entitlements, ensuring seamless integration with diverse directories, applications, and identity systems while maintaining the highest standards of security, reliability, and operational efficiency in a cloud-native environment.
• You will collaborate closely with product managers, architects, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams to define technical strategy, lead prototyping efforts, and translate business requirements into robust, maintainable software solutions that enable other teams to move faster and innovate with confidence.
• You will foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement by championing best practices in testing, monitoring, and incident response, while mentoring junior engineers and elevating the technical bar across the organization through thought leadership and hands-on guidance.
• You will stay at the forefront of identity, security, and distributed systems innovation, applying emerging technologies and patterns to solve complex challenges in large-scale cloud infrastructure, ensuring Okta’s platform remains resilient, performant, and ahead of evolving threats and customer needs.
• You will contribute to the long-term technical vision of the LCM platform by building reusable frameworks and foundational services that reduce duplication, increase team velocity, and empower cross-functional teams to deliver value more efficiently and reliably.

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of software development experience with strong proficiency in Java, including significant hands-on experience with Hibernate and Spring Boot
• Deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering principles, and object-oriented programming concepts
• 4+ years of experience automating and deploying large-scale production services in AWS, GCP, or comparable cloud platforms
• Proven experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or GraphDB in production environments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions and distributed teams
• Experience leading and mentoring junior engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence within teams
