- • As a Principal Software Engineer at 8th Light, you will serve as a trusted expert and leader, guiding ambiguous initiatives and architecting scalable solutions for clients across industries, leveraging 10+ years of proven success in high-stakes consulting engagements.
- • Day to day, you will rapidly build client trust, guide technical direction, solve complex problems, advise on architecture and scalability, collaborate on full ML lifecycle systems, lead feedback conversations, coach engineering teams, influence executive decisions, and contribute to internal mentorship and community initiatives.
- • 8th Light is a technology solutions provider founded in 2006, headquartered in Chicago, partnering with organizations from startups to global enterprises to solve meaningful challenges through product strategy, experiential design, AI solutions, and deep engineering expertise, fostering a culture of continuous education, honesty, and measurable outcomes.
- • In this role, you will deepen your domain expertise, lead modernization efforts, drive innovation in AI and system design, mentor teams at scale, shape client and internal technical practices, and grow as a strategic technologist influencing outcomes beyond code.
🎯 Requirements
- • Demonstrated long-term success on high-stakes consulting engagements across multiple language paradigms, stacks, ecosystems, and client industries
- • Experience leading development and delivery of production-grade software using languages and frameworks including Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Ruby, Scala, R, SQL, and Go
- • Track record of building or integrating AI/ML-powered features such as recommendation engines, NLP models, computer vision, or predictive analytics
- • Experience evaluating and applying AI-assistive development tools to improve delivery speed and quality
- • Proven ability to remedy architecture-level concerns including scalability, security, reliability, and performance
- • Experience facilitating alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders in ambiguous, complex environments
