📋 Description

  • • As Privacy and AI Counsel at Harvey AI Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s approach to privacy, data protection, and AI governance at a critical inflection point in the evolution of professional services technology. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-scaling, mission-driven organization with over 1,000 customers across 58+ countries, where your legal expertise will directly influence how cutting-edge AI systems are developed, deployed, and governed in compliance with global privacy and AI regulations.
  • • You will work closely with the Head of Privacy and cross-functional teams including engineering, product, sales, and security to ensure Harvey’s practices meet the highest standards of data protection and responsible AI use. Your contributions will help build scalable privacy programs, mitigate regulatory risk, and support the company’s commitment to trust, transparency, and accountability in AI.
  • • Day to day, you will assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with customers, subprocessors, service providers, and third parties, ensuring contractual alignment with GDPR, CCPA, and other global privacy frameworks.
  • • You will help develop, maintain, and scale Harvey’s global privacy program by preparing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) to identify and mitigate privacy risks, and maintaining Records of Processing Activities (ROPA) in compliance with regulatory requirements across jurisdictions.
  • • You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to evaluate the privacy and data protection implications of new product features and AI-driven innovations, providing timely legal guidance to support responsible innovation.
  • • You will monitor evolving privacy and AI regulations globally — including developments in AI-specific legislation — and advise internal stakeholders on necessary adjustments to policies, practices, and product roadmaps.
  • • You will support implementation and ongoing compliance with AI-specific regulatory frameworks, including the CCPA’s governance provisions for automated decision-making and related guidance from regulators such as the CPPA and EU AI Act.
  • • You will assist in classifying AI systems under applicable risk-based frameworks, assessing associated obligations, and helping design internal AI governance controls, documentation, and processes to ensure accountability, transparency, and human oversight.
  • • You will partner with legal, product, and compliance stakeholders to embed AI ethics principles — such as fairness, explainability, and human-in-the-loop design — into Harvey’s product development lifecycle.
  • • You will work closely with the security team to align privacy controls with technical safeguards, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data across Harvey’s platform and infrastructure.
  • • You will contribute to a culture of privacy and security by providing training, guidance, and proactive counsel to employees across functions, promoting awareness and accountability at all levels.
  • • Harvey’s legal team operates with precision, ownership, and collaboration — you will join a group of sharp, motivated professionals who tackle complex challenges with urgency and care, staying closely aligned with customers and engineers to solve real-world problems.
  • • In this role, you will gain deep exposure to the intersection of AI innovation and privacy law, developing expertise in one of the most dynamic and high-impact areas of technology law today. You will have the opportunity to shape industry-leading practices in AI governance and leave a lasting impact on how responsible AI is built and scaled in enterprise settings.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Qualified lawyer with 4+ years of post-qualification experience in privacy and data protection law
  • • Proven expertise in U.S. and E.U. data protection regimes, including GDPR and CCPA/CPRA, with familiarity across global privacy frameworks (e.g., LGPD, PIPEDA)
  • • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills, with demonstrated ability to advise on data privacy, AI, and security matters in a corporate or law firm setting
  • • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with experience working effectively across legal, product, engineering, and business teams
  • • Highly responsive, detail-oriented, and able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment
