- • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to provide legal guidance on B2B AI systems, ensuring alignment between legal requirements and business objectives.
- • Research and advise on regulatory frameworks governing generative AI, including laws related to artificial intelligence, privacy, intellectual property, product liability, marketing, and consumer protection.
- • Collaborate with marketing teams to ensure product communications comply with legal and regulatory standards, safeguarding brand credibility and customer trust.
- • Support the development and maturation of the legal team’s capabilities to scale effectively alongside Harvey’s rapid growth and product evolution.
- • Build communication strategies that balance risk-taking with responsible innovation in a fast-paced startup environment where precedents are often absent.
- • Provide proactive legal counsel on emerging AI-related issues without clear regulatory guidance, demonstrating sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
- • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to product teams, helping to design and enhance AI-powered features while mitigating legal exposure.
- • Engage directly with customers—including law firms and in-house legal teams—to understand real-world use cases and translate them into actionable legal risk assessments.
- • Own legal strategy for key product initiatives from concept through launch, ensuring compliance and scalability across international markets.
- • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving AI regulations in the U.S. and globally, particularly in jurisdictions where Harvey’s 1000+ customers operate.
- • Work independently and autonomously to identify legal risks before they escalate, prioritizing issues based on business impact and regulatory exposure.
- • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture within the legal team, responding swiftly to cross-functional requests while maintaining rigorous standards.
- • Contribute to shaping Harvey’s product legal function as a core pillar of the company’s infrastructure during a critical phase of scaling.
- • Navigate complex legal questions surrounding AI-generated content, data training, liability allocation, and transparency requirements in enterprise applications.
- • Translate technical product features into clear legal risk summaries for non-legal stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making across departments.
- • Help define internal policies and workflows for legal review of AI product iterations, ensuring consistency and efficiency as the product roadmap accelerates.
🎯 Requirements
- • A law degree from an accredited law school
- • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one jurisdiction and able to practice in California
- • 4-5 years of legal experience, with preference for combination of law firm and in-house experience
- • Demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations relating to artificial intelligence, intellectual property, privacy, product liability, marketing, and/or consumer protection
- • Experience advising clients on AI or technology-related legal matters in a product legal or tech transactions capacity
- • Ability to think creatively, function independently, and work proactively in ambiguous situations without clear precedents
