- • Manage and mentor a pod of four product designers responsible for BetterUp’s core coaching experiences across member, partner, and coach surfaces.
- • Run design operations including Figma hygiene, handoff standards, review cadence, and sprint participation for your pod.
- • Ensure design is involved at kickoff—before product requirements are written—not as an afterthought.
- • Enforce sign-off gates before work moves to engineering to maintain quality and consistency across all design surfaces.
- • Partner directly with VP Product counterparts for Partner, Coach, and Member pods to align on priorities, tradeoffs, and roadmap dependencies.
- • Surface experience quality issues across your four interconnected surfaces (Partner Hub, Performance Intelligence, Buyer; Individual coaching: Manage, Lead, Ready; Group coaching: Dare to Lead, Guided Journey, Team tooling; Coach professional platform) and present them in weekly design reviews.
- • Contribute to team-wide rituals including cross-pod critiques, design jams, and quarterly dogfooding sessions.
- • Maintain hands-on design craft as a player-coach: actively contribute to design work while managing your team, ensuring taste, collaboration, and alignment with growth, core, AI, and design systems teams.
- • Operate in a fast-moving environment with incomplete information, making decisions that balance user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility.
- • Champion AI-augmented design workflows by adopting and modeling the use of AI-powered tools such as AI-assisted prototyping, generative design, and AI-driven user research analysis.
- • Foster a psychologically safe environment where team members can experiment with AI tools, share both successes and failures, and unlearn outdated practices.
- • Actively integrate AI into your own design process and transparently share your methodology with the team to elevate collective capability.
- • Ensure coherence and quality across B2B, B2C, and two-sided platform experiences that span partner, member, and coach user journeys.
- • Drive upstream design involvement by influencing product direction early in the ideation phase, not just executing on PM-defined requirements.
- • Maintain high craft standards while managing multiple complex product areas simultaneously, requiring systems thinking and cross-domain design expertise.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of product design experience, including direct people management of product designers
- • Experience managing product designers across multiple product areas simultaneously, including B2B, B2C, and two-sided platforms
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to maintain design coherence across interconnected surfaces
- • Proven track record of embedding design upstream in product development, not just executing on PM direction
- • Proficiency with Figma and modern design tools, including prototyping and design systems workflows
- • Experience using AI-powered design tools (e.g., AI-assisted prototyping, generative design, AI-driven user research analysis)
