• • Own the future of personal finance. As a Product Engineer (Senior, Staff, or Principal) on one of Monarch’s five cross-functional product pods, you will architect and ship Python/Django services that power the top-recommended personal finance app in the market. From the moment a new user links their first bank account to the instant they hit a long-term savings goal, your backend code is the invisible engine making every interaction feel effortless.
• • End-to-end ownership of large-scale features. You will design data models, craft resilient APIs, and optimize PostgreSQL queries that surface millions of transactions in milliseconds. Whether you join Tracking & Collaboration (household finance visibility), Planning & Advice (AI-driven insights), Growth (onboarding experiments), Aggregation (bank-connect orchestration), or RevX (zero-to-one product bets), you will take ideas from whiteboard to production with minimal hand-offs.
• • Shape product strategy, not just code. Engineers at Monarch sit shoulder-to-shoulder with Product and Design in weekly discovery sessions. You will translate fuzzy user pain points into crisp technical proposals, run A/B tests to validate hypotheses, and iterate at a weekly release cadence. Your opinion on what to build is as valued as how to build it.
• • Champion engineering culture across time zones. We are fully remote and collaborate synchronously 9 AM–2 PM PT, then asynchronously the rest of the day. You will introduce new lint rules, write run-books for the on-call rotation, and pair-program with teammates from Lisbon to Vancouver. Good documentation and empathetic code reviews are part of the daily craft.
• • Relentless focus on performance and reliability. Personal finance data must be correct, secure, and fast. You will add observability to every endpoint, tune Celery queues for real-time aggregation, and lead incident reviews with blameless curiosity. When alerts fire, you jump into the rotation with a calm, problem-solving mindset and turn outages into learning posts.
• • Mentor and multiply. Senior-plus engineers are expected to uplevel the team. You will run internal tech talks, sponsor junior devs through their first major refactor, and maintain decision records that help future engineers understand the “why” behind every choice.
• • Stay close to the user. We dog-food Monarch every day. You will read App Store reviews, join user interviews, and occasionally handle support tickets to feel the real-world impact of your work. When a member writes in that Monarch helped them get out of debt, you will know your code made that possible.
