Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Product Manager II, GIS Data Products at First American's Data & Analytics division, you will be the pivotal force behind the entire customer experience for our sophisticated GIS data products. This role is not just about managing a product; it's about owning its lifecycle from conception to ongoing success, ensuring it consistently delivers exceptional value to our diverse customer base.
  • • You will be instrumental in translating complex customer needs and market opportunities into actionable product requirements. This involves deep dives into understanding how our clients, including lenders, title companies, and real estate professionals, leverage geospatial data for critical decision-making processes such as underwriting, appraisal, investment screening, and government workflows.
  • • A core responsibility is the strategic shaping and packaging of our extensive GIS layers. You will work with industry-standard software to validate data provided by our engineering teams, transforming raw data into customer-ready GIS layers. This includes defining and configuring attributes, symbology, filters, field sets, aliases, and naming conventions that ensure clarity and usability.
  • • Orchestrating cross-functional execution is paramount. You will collaborate closely with Product, Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, and Sales teams to ensure seamless delivery. This involves defining clear priorities, setting realistic timelines, and ensuring all teams are aligned towards a common goal of delivering reliable, discoverable, and highly valuable map-ready data products.
  • • Your role will involve synthesizing market insights, customer feedback, and internal capabilities to prioritize product outcomes. You will define detailed requirements for new features, enhancements, and data attributes, ensuring that the delivered solutions directly address customer pain points and unlock new opportunities.
  • • A key outcome is ensuring customers can effortlessly access and utilize First American's GIS layers. This means supporting integration with popular open-sourced GIS tools like QGIS, adhering to open standards such as OGC APIs, and ensuring compatibility with Esri workflows. The goal is to provide these capabilities with clear, demonstrable value and minimal friction for the end-user.
  • • You will be responsible for maintaining a coherent and versioned catalog of our GIS layers. This catalog will serve as the definitive source of truth, mapping each layer to specific customer needs, detailing the attributes required for its delivery, and outlining its version history.
  • • Sales enablement is a critical component of your success. You will equip the Sales team with validated product positioning, compelling demo layers, and comprehensive enablement materials that are directly aligned with customer workflows and value propositions. This ensures our sales force can effectively communicate the benefits and applications of our GIS data products.
  • • Delivery operations will be managed with a focus on predictability and quality. You will help establish and maintain a consistent release and refresh rhythm for our data products, ensuring defined quality standards are met and ownership is clearly established across all involved teams.
  • • Essential functions include owning the GIS data product experience end-to-end: from initial value definition and requirements gathering, through delivery readiness, adoption, and continuous improvement cycles. You will translate customer insights into strategic product decisions, influencing the layer portfolio, attribute specifications, and overall usability.
  • • You will partner proactively with Sales, Marketing, Data Engineering, and directly with customers to identify emerging opportunities, validate unmet needs, and inform the product roadmap. Developing and maintaining essential product artifacts, such as detailed layer specifications, field definitions, release notes, and customer-facing documentation, will be a regular part of your responsibilities.
  • • In GIS Layer Design & Packaging, you will use your expertise to validate class files and create polished, customer-ready GIS layers. This includes defining views, symbology, filters, field sets, aliases, and naming conventions. You will package these layers to meet distinct customer needs, maintaining a versioned catalog and establishing usability standards for metadata, schema consistency, and naming conventions. Approximately 20% of your time may involve hands-on layer work.
  • • For Cross-Functional Execution & Delivery, you will collaborate with the Data team to define attribute requirements, data definitions, and quality thresholds based on validated customer needs, co-owning the acceptance criteria for publish-ready data. You will coordinate with the platform publishing owner to ensure layers and services are correctly published and governed for consumption via various interfaces.
  • • You will drive prioritization and sequencing of enhancements based on customer feedback, business value, and technical feasibility. Defining and executing release readiness checklists, including functional validation and basic data quality checks, will be crucial.
  • • In Sales Enablement & Customer Readiness, you will develop and maintain key assets like demo layers, capability summaries, customer workflow narratives, and product briefs. You will support Sales in structuring customer trials and defining success criteria, actively participating in customer sessions to accelerate iteration and adoption.
  • • You will partner with Sales on feedback loops and win/loss analysis, translating these insights into prioritized product improvements. Finally, in Operational Readiness & Quality, you will define product quality expectations and partner with the Data Platform team to implement validation checks and reporting, establish and communicate a predictable release refresh rhythm, and drive the resolution of issues impacting customer experience.
