• Decagon is at the forefront of revolutionizing customer experiences through advanced conversational AI, and we are seeking a visionary Product Manager to lead our groundbreaking Research team. As a key player in our Product Management organization, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of AI agent development, focusing on model training, agent architecture, and sophisticated evaluation systems. This role is for a strategic thinker with a deep technical understanding, capable of translating complex AI capabilities into tangible solutions that address critical customer needs at an enterprise scale.
• You will be responsible for defining and executing the research roadmap, ensuring Decagon remains the industry leader in AI-powered customer interactions. This involves identifying emerging trends in AI and machine learning, understanding their potential application to our platform, and prioritizing initiatives that will deliver the most significant impact for our customers. Your work will directly influence the core AI capabilities that power personalized, efficient, and deeply satisfying customer experiences across voice, chat, email, SMS, and all other communication channels.
• A significant part of your role will involve deep collaboration with our customers. You will engage directly with industry-defining enterprises to uncover their most pressing challenges and evolving requirements. This customer-centric approach will inform your strategy, ensuring that our research efforts are always aligned with real-world problems and market demands. You will act as the bridge between customer insights and technical execution, translating complex user needs into precise model requirements.
• Partnering closely with our world-class Engineering and Infrastructure teams will be paramount. You will guide the development process, ensuring that research breakthroughs are efficiently translated into robust, scalable, and production-ready AI models and features. This requires a strong technical acumen, enabling you to engage in detailed discussions about model architecture, training data strategies, evaluation pipelines, and deployment considerations.
• Beyond engineering, you will collaborate extensively with our Agent PM and Go-to-Market (GTM) teams. This cross-functional partnership is crucial for ensuring that new AI capabilities are effectively integrated into our product offering, successfully launched to the market, and adopted by our customer base. You will contribute to product strategy, positioning, and enablement, ensuring that the value of our research advancements is clearly communicated and realized.
• Managing relationships with key external partners, including research institutions and technology providers, will also be a critical aspect of this role. These collaborations can accelerate our innovation, provide access to cutting-edge research, and enhance our competitive advantage. You will identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and manage these relationships to mutual benefit.
• As a founding PM on this team, you will have the unique opportunity to establish foundational processes and best practices for AI research product management at Decagon. This includes building systems and workflows that enable the research team to move with speed and agility while maintaining the highest standards of operational rigor and quality. Your contributions will set the precedent for how future AI innovations are brought to market.
• You will be expected to own initiatives end-to-end, from initial discovery and rigorous scoping through to successful launch and post-launch adoption monitoring. This holistic ownership ensures accountability and maximizes the impact of your product decisions. You will be empowered to make critical decisions, drive consensus, and deliver exceptional results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
• The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of the AI/ML landscape, with a particular emphasis on large language models, generative AI, and their application in enterprise solutions. You should be comfortable navigating the complexities of model training, fine-tuning, prompt engineering, and the ethical considerations surrounding AI development. Your ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences will be key to your success.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant experience in product management, engineering, research, or a founder role, with a strong focus on AI/ML.
• Proven experience in developing AI/ML models, ideally within a research-intensive environment.
• Strong technical acumen, with the ability to comfortably discuss model architecture, training data, evaluation pipelines, and MLOps.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across various functions.
