- • Join Canonical, the driving force behind Ubuntu, a globally recognized leader in open-source software and operating systems. We are at the forefront of innovation, powering critical enterprise initiatives across public cloud, data science, AI, engineering, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Our platform is the backbone for many of the world's leading public cloud and silicon providers, as well as industry pioneers across diverse sectors. As a pioneer in global distributed collaboration, Canonical fosters a unique work environment with over 1200 colleagues spread across 75 countries, emphasizing remote work and minimal office presence. We believe in the power of in-person connection to foster strategic alignment and execution, bringing our distributed teams together two to four times annually in inspiring global locations.
- • Canonical is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to spearhead our embedded systems initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in guiding complex projects from conception through to successful deployment, ensuring they align with our strategic objectives and meet the exacting standards of our enterprise clients. You will manage the entire project lifecycle, encompassing planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure, with a strong emphasis on delivering within scope, on time, and within budget.
- • Your primary responsibility will be to orchestrate the efforts of cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, marketing, and sales, to achieve project milestones. This involves defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables, while ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with market needs. You will develop comprehensive project plans, including detailed work breakdown structures, resource allocation, and risk management strategies. Proactive identification and mitigation of potential risks and issues will be crucial to maintaining project momentum and ensuring successful outcomes.
- • As a Project Manager, you will be the central point of contact for all project-related communications. You will facilitate regular team meetings, provide clear and concise status updates to stakeholders at all levels, and manage expectations effectively. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and clients will be paramount to fostering collaboration and ensuring project success. Your ability to translate technical complexities into understandable business terms will be highly valued.
- • This role demands a deep understanding of software development methodologies, particularly those relevant to embedded systems and open-source projects. You will be responsible for tracking project progress, managing changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate tools and techniques, and ensuring that all project documentation is complete, accurate, and up-to-date. You will also play a key role in post-project reviews, capturing lessons learned and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- • You will be expected to champion best practices in project management, driving efficiency and effectiveness across all projects. This includes implementing and refining project management processes, tools, and templates to support Canonical's agile and distributed work culture. Your leadership will inspire teams to perform at their best, overcome challenges, and deliver exceptional results that contribute to Canonical's continued growth and success in the embedded systems market.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of successfully managing software development projects, ideally within the embedded Linux or open-source ecosystem. Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban is essential, as is the ability to adapt these methodologies to the unique demands of embedded development. You should be adept at managing distributed teams, fostering a collaborative and productive remote working environment.
- • This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on Canonical's embedded systems offerings, working with cutting-edge technologies and contributing to projects that shape the future of computing. You will have the autonomy to drive projects forward, the support of a talented global team, and the chance to work on initiatives that have a real-world impact. If you are a results-oriented Project Manager with a passion for open-source technology and a knack for navigating complex projects, we encourage you to apply.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience in project management, with a strong track record of successfully delivering complex software development projects, preferably in the embedded systems domain.
- • Proficiency in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban) and experience using project management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
- • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively manage expectations and build relationships across diverse teams and geographies.
- • Experience working with distributed or remote teams and a strong understanding of the challenges and best practices associated with remote collaboration.
- • Familiarity with open-source software development processes and the Linux ecosystem, particularly as it applies to embedded environments.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
- • Generous paid time off (PTO) and company holidays.
- • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning, including access to training and conferences.
- • A truly global and flexible remote work environment, fostering work-life balance.
- • Regular in-person team gatherings in diverse and exciting international locations for strategic alignment and team building.
