- • As a Public Safety Captain of Community Engagement, you will be instrumental in shaping the safety and well-being of the University of Rochester community, embodying the institution's commitment to Meliora - Ever Better. This pivotal role extends beyond traditional public safety duties, focusing on fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and thriving environment for all.
- • You will assume overall command of an assigned platoon or unit, meticulously overseeing and coordinating the daily duties of assigned personnel. This includes a critical role in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection process for future Public Safety Officers, ensuring the highest caliber of individuals join the team.
- • A significant aspect of your responsibility will involve personnel matters within your area of assignment. This encompasses dedicated mentoring, professional development, and comprehensive training for all staff under your command. You will actively participate in the development and maintenance of effective labor management relations, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- • In situations requiring it, you will assume operational command of law enforcement investigations and critical incidents, demonstrating decisive leadership and strategic thinking.
- • You will be a key architect in planning, organizing, and managing various projects and programs specifically designed to enhance community-oriented policing initiatives. Your efforts will drive continuous quality improvement across the department, ensuring our safety strategies are both effective and community-focused.
- • This role involves assisting in the development and implementation of Public Safety Department policies and procedures, contributing to the strategic direction and operational framework of the department.
- • A core function of this position is to establish and maintain positive, proactive relations with the entire University community. This includes fostering open communication, building trust, and ensuring the department is seen as a supportive resource.
- • You will also maintain vital liaison with other law enforcement agencies, ensuring seamless collaboration and information sharing when necessary.
- • Beyond these core functions, you will be expected to perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the overall mission of the Department of Public Safety.
- • In addition to fulfilling all responsibilities of a Public Safety Lieutenant, you will manage emergencies by directing other specialists, assigning and orchestrating tasks effectively when responding to multiple concurrent emergencies. This requires a high level of situational awareness and the ability to multitask under pressure.
- • You will serve as a preceptor, playing a crucial role in the onboarding and training of newly promoted Public Safety Lieutenants and Sergeants, ensuring a smooth transition and consistent application of standards.
- • You will oversee platoon staff performance evaluations and scheduling, ensuring equitable distribution of work and professional growth opportunities for all team members.
- • In the absence of the Major, you will be prepared to assume command of the area of assignment, demonstrating leadership readiness and adaptability.
