- • The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Purchasing Assistant III to join our dynamic team. This remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a world-renowned biomedical research institution dedicated to discovering precise genomic solutions for disease and empowering the global biomedical community. As a Purchasing Assistant III, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and compliant procurement of goods and services, directly impacting the laboratory's ability to advance groundbreaking research and improve human health.
- • This role is distinguished by a higher level of independent judgment, problem-solving proficiency, and a broader scope of specialized knowledge compared to lower-level purchasing positions. You will be entrusted with complex duties and expected to operate with minimal supervision, making decisions that have a significant impact on departmental operations and research timelines. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the intricacies of procurement, ensuring adherence to all established Laboratory policies, procedures, and relevant local, state, and federal guidelines.
- • A key responsibility will be the meticulous review of purchasing requests and associated documentation submitted by end-users. You will be tasked with verifying the completeness and accuracy of all information, ensuring it aligns with procurement policies and regulatory requirements. This involves prioritizing requests based on urgency, cost-effectiveness, and time constraints, and determining the most appropriate procurement method, including competitive bidding processes.
- • You will be responsible for placing orders with a diverse range of vendors, including specialized items such as controlled substances, prescription drugs, and radioactive materials. This requires a keen eye for detail in confirming prices, availability, and delivery schedules to prevent delays in critical research activities.
- • Maintaining the integrity of our procurement system is paramount. You will be expected to update purchase orders with a high degree of accuracy, meticulously tracking supplies, order quantities, received items, and sales records for various vendors. This data management is essential for financial tracking, inventory control, and vendor performance evaluation.
- • Proactive follow-up on all orders is a core function of this role. You will ensure that materials and services are delivered by their promised dates, liaising with vendors and end-users to address any potential issues or delays promptly. Your ability to anticipate and resolve problems will be key to maintaining operational continuity.
- • You will serve as a primary point of contact for both vendors and internal end-users, facilitating smooth day-to-day procurement operations. This involves coordinating, facilitating, and resolving a wide array of procurement-related issues, ensuring that researchers and staff have the resources they need without unnecessary administrative burdens.
- • Providing routine advice and support to end-users on the procurement process is an integral part of this position. You will guide colleagues through documentation requirements, policy adherence, and best practices. Furthermore, you may be involved in user training initiatives and assisting in the resolution of complex procurement challenges faced by others.
- • A proactive approach to sourcing is highly valued. You will actively seek out new suppliers for materials and services, negotiating favorable terms and pricing that align with the Laboratory's financial objectives and procurement policies.
- • Beyond core purchasing duties, you will undertake various other essential tasks. This may include scheduling maintenance and services for equipment, adjusting and rolling over grant encumbrances into the next fiscal year, maintaining an up-to-date catalog library, and managing filing systems. In certain circumstances, you may be required to assist in the operation of a maintenance stock room or receiving dock, which could involve lifting items up to 50 pounds.
- • This role offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to contribute your expertise from the convenience of your home office. The salary range for this position is $23.64 - $39.58 per hour, with the final salary determined by your qualifications and experience. Join The Jackson Laboratory and become an integral part of a mission-driven organization that is at the forefront of biomedical innovation.
