QA Engineer - Core Database (remote)

📋 Description

• • Own the quality bar for the fastest OLAP database on earth. As a QA Engineer on the Core Database team, you will be the last line of defense between our code and the 1000+ companies that depend on ClickHouse for real-time analytics at petabyte scale.
• • Design, build and maintain a multi-layered test strategy that spans unit, integration, performance, regression and chaos testing for a distributed, column-oriented engine written in C++. Your test harnesses will run tens of thousands of times a day across bare-metal, Kubernetes, and every major cloud platform.
• • Reproduce and isolate production issues reported by marquee customers such as Lyft, Sony, IBM, GitLab, Twilio and HubSpot. You will work directly with field engineers to turn vague symptoms like “query latency spiked” into deterministic test cases that prevent recurrence.
• • Automate benchmarking pipelines that measure query throughput, memory footprint and disk I/O under workloads ranging from 1 GB to 1 PB. Your dashboards will decide whether a pull request lands or is sent back for optimization.
• • Introduce chaos engineering practices to a stateful, distributed database. Inject node failures, network partitions, disk corruption and clock skew to validate replication, recovery and exactly-once semantics.
• • Collaborate daily with kernel engineers who hack on the C++ core, infrastructure engineers who ship ClickHouse Cloud on AWS, GCP, Azure and Alibaba, and product managers who translate customer pain into crisp requirements.
• • Contribute to the open-source repository with reproducible bug reports, regression tests and performance benchmarks. Your GitHub issues will be read by thousands of community members and cited in academic papers.
• • Drive the adoption of property-based testing and formal verification techniques to cover edge cases that traditional example-based tests miss. You will present findings at internal tech talks and external conferences.
• • Establish SLIs/SLOs for query latency, ingestion rate and availability that align with ClickHouse’s brand promise of sub-second analytics on billions of rows. Your alerts wake the right person before customers notice.
• • Mentor junior QA engineers and interns, reviewing test plans, code and post-mortems. You will shape the culture of quality across a fully remote engineering organization spanning 20+ countries and 15 time zones.
• • Influence the roadmap by translating test gaps into engineering investments. When you discover that a new feature lacks observability hooks, you will champion the work needed to make it testable in production.
• • Maintain release gates that allow weekly open-source drops and daily cloud deploys without regressions. Your green check-mark is the final signal in a continuous delivery pipeline that ships code 50+ times a day.
