Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Quantinuum is at the vanguard of the quantum computing revolution, and we are seeking an exceptional Quantum Hardware Researcher to join our pioneering team in Singapore. This critical role involves the launch, meticulous maintenance, ongoing development, and expert operation of our cutting-edge, on-premises Helios quantum computer, situated at a prestigious customer site. Helios represents a significant leap forward in quantum technology, boasting 98 physical qubits and achieving error rates below 10^-3, positioning it as a leader in the field. This initiative builds upon our successful deployment of a quantum computer at RIKEN's Wako campus in Japan, further solidifying our position as a premier provider of Hardware-as-a-Service in the quantum computing landscape.
- • As a Quantum Hardware Researcher, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless and optimal performance of the Helios system. Your responsibilities will span the entire lifecycle of the quantum computer, from initial setup and calibration to routine operations, troubleshooting, and implementing enhancements. You will be part of a dedicated, small team working collaboratively to manage this complex apparatus, with the added advantage of global support from Quantinuum's extensive network of experts.
- • A core aspect of this role is taking ownership of specific subsystems within the Helios quantum computer. This could involve deep dives into areas such as laser systems, critical for qubit manipulation and cooling, or functional capabilities like precise ion transport, essential for maintaining qubit coherence and connectivity. You will be expected to develop and execute comprehensive operation and development plans, ensuring that the quantum computer consistently meets and exceeds performance benchmarks.
- • Beyond the on-premises system, you will also contribute to the remote operation and maintenance of our cloud-based H-series quantum computers. This dual responsibility requires adaptability and a broad understanding of different operational environments, allowing you to leverage your expertise across Quantinuum's diverse quantum computing infrastructure. Working as part of a global team means engaging with colleagues across different time zones and cultural backgrounds, fostering a truly international and collaborative research environment.
- • A significant part of your role will involve mentorship and training. You will have the opportunity to guide and develop junior team members, sharing your deep technical knowledge and operational best practices. This includes imparting skills in quantum computing principles, hardware operation, and problem-solving, thereby contributing to the growth and expertise of the wider Quantinuum team.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a profound and comprehensive understanding of quantum computing principles, atomic physics, and the intricacies of technical operations. Hands-on experience operating a quantum computer or similarly sophisticated scientific system within a team setting is highly desirable. Your ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and adapt to rapidly evolving technological landscapes will be paramount.
- • You will be expected to conceptualize and execute innovative strategies for both the operation and future development of the quantum computer. This includes identifying opportunities for performance improvements, implementing new experimental protocols, and contributing to the overall roadmap of Quantinuum's hardware advancements. Your insights will directly influence the trajectory of our quantum computing hardware.
- • Effective communication is key. You must be able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts, both verbally and in writing, in English. This is crucial for collaborating with your immediate team, engaging with the customer, and reporting findings to the broader Quantinuum organization and potentially to academic or industry partners.
- • The role also necessitates a willingness to travel abroad for specialized training, collaborative projects, or other business-related activities, ensuring you remain at the forefront of quantum hardware technology and contribute to Quantinuum's global initiatives.
- • By joining Quantinuum, you will be immersed in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment, working alongside world-renowned experts in the quantum computing industry. You will contribute to groundbreaking research and development that is shaping the future of computation and its applications across numerous sectors. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a company that is not just participating in the quantum revolution, but actively leading it, making the impossible possible.
🎯 Requirements
- • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- • Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate experience (M.S. or Ph.D. inclusive) in a relevant research or operational role.
- • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or individual granted asylum or refugee status) due to contractual requirements.
- • Candidates must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national, unless they are also a U.S. citizen, due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Work alongside leading names and highly talented individuals in the quantum computing industry.
- • Highly competitive compensation package and equity options.
- • Positive approach to flexible working arrangements.
- • Comprehensive benefits package.
