Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Be the face of PDI Technologies to some of the UK’s busiest forecourts and convenience retailers. As our Field Service Maintenance Engineer on a 6-month fixed-term contract you will own the end-to-end resolution of hardware issues that keep fuel flowing, tills ringing and loyalty programmes rewarding millions of shoppers every day.
- • Operate across South London and surrounding counties, visiting sites from 7 am to 8 pm on a rotating early (7 am-4 pm) and late (11 am-8 pm) shift pattern. You will work six consecutive days followed by three days off, ensuring our customers receive 13-hour, 7-day coverage without compromise.
- • Diagnose, repair and maintain a diverse estate of payment terminals, EPOS systems, fuel controllers, back-office servers and network infrastructure. Your toolkit will include OEM diagnostics, PDI’s proprietary software and a fully stocked van of spares so you can achieve first-time fixes above the 85 % SLA target.
- • Respond to reactive break-fix calls within contractual timeframes—often under pressure when a site cannot trade. You will triage remotely with our Service Desk, travel to site, complete the repair, test all integrated systems and capture photographic evidence and customer sign-off within our FSM platform.
- • Execute scheduled proactive maintenance visits to prevent failures before they happen. This includes cleaning card readers, updating firmware, replacing ageing cables and validating security seals, directly reducing emergency call-outs and boosting customer Net Promoter Score.
- • Perform basic installation and jointing tasks when new sites are added or refurbished. You will run Cat-5/6 cabling, crimp connectors, mount payment pedestals and commission devices so that new stores open on time and to specification.
- • Maintain meticulous asset and inventory records. Every part removed or fitted is scanned and tracked in real time, ensuring £500 k+ of van stock is accounted for and replenishment triggers are automated.
- • Champion health & safety and PCI-DSS compliance on every visit. You will complete dynamic risk assessments, wear issued PPE and follow safe-isolation procedures for electrical and fuel systems, protecting yourself, the public and our brand reputation.
- • Deliver an exceptional customer experience. You will explain technical issues in plain English, train store staff on basic troubleshooting and leave sites cleaner than you found them, turning engineers into trusted advisors.
- • Contribute to continuous improvement by logging repeat-fault trends, suggesting design tweaks and feeding field intelligence back to Product Engineering. Your insights directly influence the next generation of PDI hardware.
🎯 Requirements
- • Full UK driving licence with maximum 6 penalty points and willingness to drive a company van across South London daily
- • Proven experience (1-3 years) maintaining payment, EPOS or similar mission-critical hardware in retail, hospitality or fuel environments
- • Solid technical aptitude: able to read wiring diagrams, use multimeters, crimp RJ45 and replace electronic modules confidently
- • Strong organisational skills to manage 6–10 calls per day, meet SLAs and complete digital paperwork accurately while mobile
- • SPA Passport or willingness to obtain within first 30 days (site access requirement for many fuel retailers)
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive pro-rata salary plus overtime and on-call premiums during the 6-month FTC
- • Fully expensed company van, fuel card, tools, PPE and latest smartphone/tablet provided from day one
- • Quarterly perks programme including retail vouchers, wellbeing allowance and discounted fuel via GasBuddy app
- • Access to PDI’s continuous learning platform, technical certifications and career pathways that often convert FTCs to permanent roles
