- • Lead dynamic, in-person SAT classes across New York City’s five boroughs—primarily Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx—after school hours, inspiring high-school students to master every section of the exam.
- • Deliver 9 two-hour lessons plus 1–2 full-length proctored practice tests per course, meeting 1–3 times per week on weekday afternoons or Saturdays during the school year; total commitment averages 15–20 hours per week.
- • Employ Kaplan’s research-backed curriculum and proprietary score-boosting strategies to immerse students in SAT language, logic, and problem-solving, driving measurable score increases and college readiness.
- • Adapt instruction in real time to diverse learners, using diagnostic data to close opportunity gaps for under-represented students and ensure equitable outcomes.
- • Provide out-of-class support—email check-ins, targeted homework feedback, and office hours—so students build confidence and critical-thinking skills beyond the classroom walls.
- • Collaborate with school partners, Kaplan program managers, and fellow educators to align lessons with school goals, share best practices, and continuously refine the student experience.
- • Participate in paid onboarding and ongoing professional development, mastering both content and Kaplan’s signature pedagogy while connecting with a nationwide network of expert instructors.
- • Optionally expand your impact by picking up virtual SAT tutoring or small-group classes year-round, leveraging the same curriculum and tools from the convenience of home.
- • Maintain meticulous records of attendance, assessment scores, and student progress, using Kaplan’s digital platform to generate insights that inform next steps for each learner.
- • Model a growth mindset, demonstrating agility when schedules shift due to weather, testing calendars, or school events, and proactively communicate changes to students and stakeholders.
- • Contribute to Kaplan’s culture of innovation by piloting new lesson formats, tech tools, or data-driven interventions that could scale across the organization.
- • Enjoy the flexibility of part-time employment that complements graduate school, creative pursuits, or other professional interests while earning a competitive $60 per hour teaching rate.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline
- • 90th percentile SAT score (or equivalent mastery demonstrated by recent retest)
- • Minimum 10-month commitment with weekday afternoon availability during the school year
- • Authorization to work in the United States and ability to commute reliably to school sites across NYC
- • Comfort working independently under a remote manager while collaborating effectively with local partners
