  • • As a Senior Airflow Reliability Engineer at Astronomer, you will step into a pivotal role within our Customer Reliability Engineering (CRE) team, dedicated to ensuring the seamless and robust operation of Apache Airflow for our valued clientele. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to cultivate deep expertise in Apache Airflow, learning directly from the project's leading contributors and becoming a trusted advisor to our customers.
  • • You will be instrumental in guiding customers to maximize their utilization of our managed Airflow service, Astro, by providing expert-level technical support and strategic guidance. The CRE team at Astronomer is not a typical support function; it is a high-caliber team comprised of individuals with profound technical acumen and exceptional customer empathy. We tackle complex, mission-critical issues that demand a nuanced understanding of both the technology and the customer's unique business context.
  • • Every day presents a fresh set of challenges and learning opportunities. If you possess an insatiable curiosity for technology, a drive to not just use but master new tools, and a methodical approach to problem-solving akin to a seasoned professional, this role is designed for you.
  • • Your responsibilities will span across several critical software engineering disciplines, providing you with a comprehensive understanding of modern cloud-native architectures. This includes gaining in-depth knowledge of Airflow and its ecosystem, mastering Kubernetes for container orchestration, and developing expertise in Cloud Engineering across major providers like AWS, GCP, and Azure.
  • • You will gain exposure to the broader strategic vision of the company, understanding how your role contributes to product development, engineering initiatives, and customer relationship management.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves tackling complex and often novel Airflow-related problems for our customers. This could range from intricate configuration optimizations to identifying and diagnosing world-first bugs within the Airflow framework, offering a truly unique and challenging problem-solving experience.
  • • To foster continuous learning and contribution, you will dedicate up to 25% of your time to impactful side projects. These initiatives may include contributing directly to the open-source Apache Airflow repository, enhancing the project's capabilities, or developing and refining Astronomer’s internal monitoring and alerting systems, which are themselves built upon Airflow.
  • • You will work with a cutting-edge, cloud-native product that serves as a central hub for customers, integrating with dozens of other disparate systems. This provides an exceptional opportunity to build both depth and breadth of technical knowledge.
  • • You will engage directly with a diverse range of customer stakeholders, including their data engineers, system administrators, DevOps teams, and management, fostering strong collaborative relationships.
  • • Your insights and experiences will be invaluable in shaping the future direction of the Apache Airflow project, providing direct feedback that influences its development roadmap.
  • • You will take ownership of the customer experience, proactively managing issues, ensuring adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and providing "white glove" guidance to help customers successfully deploy and manage their Airflow environments in production.
  • • This role operates within a fully distributed team, requiring effective remote collaboration and communication skills.
  • • You will play a crucial part in maintaining 24x7 operational coverage by participating in a specified 6-hour pager rotation during your standard workday.
  • • Additionally, you will be part of a paid on-call rotation to ensure weekend coverage, demonstrating our commitment to continuous service availability.
  • • This is a hybrid role based in Hyderabad, requiring flexibility with working hours, including potential early mornings or evenings IST, with the exact schedule to be confirmed during the hiring process.
