📋 Description

• As a Senior Applied AI Engineer at Skydropx, you will be responsible for the technical core of integrating AI into the logistics platform for LATAM, designing and building production-grade AI systems that solve real business problems end-to-end, from discovery to operation.
• You will work with product and operations teams to translate ambiguous business problems into scoped, measurable, and maintainable AI solutions, build data pipelines that feed both models and product surfaces, and design rigorous evaluation systems to measure quality, detect regressions, and determine readiness for deployment.
• You will join a dynamic, ambitious, and multicultural team at Skydropx, a company innovating logistics across LATAM with multi-tenant scale handling hundreds of thousands of shipments monthly, where AI decisions have real monetary and trust implications.
• You will have the opportunity to lead and mentor other engineers in applied AI practices, influence cross-team architectural decisions, and grow professionally by working on high-stakes AI systems that augment human decision-making in logistics, where reliability, safety, and evaluation are paramount.

🎯 Requirements

• B2 or higher English proficiency
• 6+ years of total experience, with 3+ years in ML/AI systems in production environments
• 4+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years building and maintaining ML/AI systems in production beyond notebooks or PoCs
• Hands-on experience building LLM-based systems in production: prompt engineering, tool use/function calling, RAG, cost and latency management, output evaluation
• Strong proficiency in at least one language for AI systems (Python preferred, but Go, Rust, or TypeScript/Node accepted with proven ML/AI production experience)
• Experience with at least one ML framework (PyTorch, scikit-learn, JAX, or equivalent)
• Ability to translate ambiguous product problems into scoped, measurable, and maintainable AI systems
• Evaluation-first mindset: understanding that AI systems without metrics are not systems but bets
• Experience designing data pipelines at scale (event-driven messaging, batch processing, or equivalent)
• Proven track record leading at least one end-to-end AI system in production from discovery to operation
• Experience with AI system observability: distributed tracing, quality metrics, drift detection
• Demonstrated ability to influence architectural decisions across teams
• Experience evaluating and choosing between models, providers, and architectures (fine-tuning vs prompting vs classical models, commercial vs open source, agents vs pipelines)
• Formal mentorship experience with other AI engineers and defining team practices
• Ability to communicate technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences in both Spanish and English
