• You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and meticulously documenting the back-end services that power both the Bilt mobile application and our dynamic website. • A key aspect of this role involves providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. You will foster a collaborative environment, share your expertise, and help cultivate the next generation of talent within our engineering team, ensuring best practices are understood and adopted.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers, to translate business requirements into robust and scalable technical solutions. Your input will be crucial in defining the technical feasibility of new features and integrations.
• Drive the adoption and enhancement of best practices in software development, focusing on code quality, testing, and maintainability. You will be a champion for engineering excellence, ensuring our systems are built to last and perform optimally.
• Take ownership of optimizing the application for maximum speed, scalability, and reliability. This includes identifying performance bottlenecks, implementing efficient algorithms, and architecting solutions that can handle rapid growth.
• Investigate, evaluate, and strategically utilize Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services to continuously improve and evolve our application architecture. You will leverage the power of cloud-native technologies to build resilient and cost-effective solutions.
• Implement sophisticated microservices using modern technologies, with a primary focus on Java and the Quarkus framework. You will be at the forefront of building modular, independent services that enhance agility and maintainability.
• Propose, design, and enhance automation initiatives across critical areas such as infrastructure as code (IaC), continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and robust monitoring and alerting systems. Your efforts will streamline development workflows and improve operational efficiency.
• Actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to deployment, testing, and ongoing maintenance. You will contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and rapid iteration.
• Write clean, well-designed, thoroughly tested, and highly efficient code that adheres to industry standards and Bilt's architectural principles. Your code will be the foundation of our member experience.
• Become a foundational and influential member of our engineering team. You will work in close partnership with the Head of Engineering and Head of Product, contributing to strategic technical decisions and the overall direction of the company.
• Contribute to the technical vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market opportunities. You will help shape the future of Bilt's technology stack.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring minimal disruption to our members and maintaining high availability of our services.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential application to Bilt's platform to maintain our competitive edge.
• Contribute to the architectural design of new features and systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and performant.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all back-end services and systems, facilitating knowledge sharing and onboarding for new team members.
• Advocate for and implement security best practices throughout the development process, protecting member data and ensuring compliance.
• Optimize database performance and design efficient data models to support our growing user base and transaction volume.
• Design and implement robust APIs that enable seamless integration with internal and external services.
• Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the engineering team, encouraging experimentation and the adoption of new tools and techniques.
• You will be empowered to make significant technical contributions and influence the direction of a fast-growing, impactful company.

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of proven hands-on software development experience, with a strong emphasis on back-end systems.
• Demonstrable expertise in Java development, including a deep understanding of its ecosystem and best practices.
• Proven experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and experience implementing them.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate effectively as a team player within a fast-paced environment.
