Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and evolve the core Elixir services that power every Papa visit, from matching algorithms that pair a lonely senior with the perfect Papa Pal to real-time scheduling, billing, and quality-assurance pipelines that have already facilitated millions of hours of human connection.
- • Own the design, performance, and reliability of our Phoenix + OTP back-end, including the GraphQL API that feeds our React web app, React Native mobile apps, and third-party integrations with leading health plans and employers; expect to push >1 k req/s at peak while maintaining sub-200 ms p99 latencies.
- • Lead the migration of legacy Ruby services into a fault-tolerant Elixir micro-service mesh on AWS (EKS, RDS Postgres, ElastiCache, SQS/SNS, Lambda) with blue-green and canary deploys via GitHub Actions and Argo CD; you will define service contracts, write comprehensive property-based tests, and ensure zero-downtime rollouts.
- • Collaborate daily with product managers, data scientists, and clinical staff to translate complex healthcare workflows—background checks, visit authorizations, HIPAA-compliant note taking—into elegant domain models that keep sensitive member data safe and auditable.
- • Champion observability: instrument services with Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and Honeycomb dashboards so we can see a Papa Pal running late before the member even notices, and proactively dispatch support.
- • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pair programming, architecture reviews, and weekly “Tech Time” talks; we believe teaching is the fastest path to mastery and a key ingredient in our low-ego culture.
- • Contribute to open-source Elixir libraries that we maintain (e.g., a HIPAA-compliant encryption wrapper for Ecto) and represent Papa at meetups and conferences, sharing how functional programming is literally saving lives.
- • Participate in a lightweight on-call rotation (one week every 6–8 weeks) with automated runbooks and a blameless post-mortem culture; we ship fixes, not blame.
- • Iterate rapidly with feature flags and A/B experiments that let us test new matching criteria (e.g., shared hobbies, language preference) and measure impact on loneliness scores and NPS in real time.
- • Keep security front-of-mind: perform threat modeling, dependency scanning, and regular OWASP-style reviews so every Papa member can trust us with their most personal stories.
- • Influence the technical roadmap—whether that’s adding real-time audio/video for virtual companionship or leveraging machine learning to predict which members are at highest risk of isolation—and see your ideas ship to production within weeks, not quarters.
