• • The Field Engineering team operates at the critical nexus of customers, markets, products, product teams, algorithms, applications, innovation, and strategy. This is the dynamic environment where groundbreaking ideas are translated into tangible, impactful applications. You will join a highly agile and collaborative group comprising scientists, engineers, sales professionals, marketers, business developers, and product managers, all united by the goal of driving an entirely new quantum computing business forward.
• • We are actively seeking versatile engineers and architects with a strong aptitude for technical sales, compelling technical demonstrations, and effective customer engagement. If you are energized by the prospect of delivering IonQ's cutting-edge quantum computing products and applications to clients, this role is for you.
• • A primary responsibility will be to inspire and co-engineer innovative solutions with the US Department of Defense. This involves clearly articulating IonQ's strategic vision, detailing our comprehensive portfolio, and adeptly addressing technical inquiries related to our quantum offerings, which span compute, network, security, sensing, and space applications, as well as various quantum applications.
• • You will take the lead in client discussions, guiding them to envision and embrace how quantum applications can be effectively implemented within their specific business domains. This entails a deep dive into their business needs, meticulously mapping quantum algorithms across diverse sectors such as financial services, bioscience, chemistry and materials, optimization, and generative AI, into practical application code. You will collaborate closely with the IonQ Application team to execute Proof-of-Concepts, demonstrating the tangible benefits of quantum solutions.
• • A crucial aspect of your role will be to channel insights gleaned from client interactions back to the IonQ Product Management and Engineering teams. This feedback loop is vital for ensuring that client needs and market demands are directly incorporated into the evolution of our products.
• • You will be adept at navigating and effectively handling competitive objections, maintaining a confident and knowledgeable stance on IonQ's unique value proposition.
• • A key skill will be the ability to translate complex business needs articulated by our clients into actionable technical work projects, working collaboratively with other members of the team to ensure seamless execution.
• • You will be responsible for creating compelling assets that clearly explain the features and benefits of our quantum applications and other IonQ quantum products, making complex technology accessible and understandable.
• • Your role will involve guiding dialogues from initial ideation and conceptualization through focused exploration, to the successful execution of proof-of-concepts, and ultimately to the integration into production workflows.
• • You will lead client discovery sessions focused on business-oriented use cases. These sessions will aim to uncover potential synergies with the development of impactful quantum algorithms, working in tandem with the IonQ Application team.
• • You will partner strategically with our marketing, developer relations, and business development teams to amplify IonQ's presence and foster broader awareness within the global technology landscape.
• • Attendance at industry conferences will be expected, where you will engage with clients, present IonQ's capabilities, and support our booth activities.
• • This role requires approximately 20% domestic travel within the US, with potential opportunities for global travel to support client meetings and IonQ conference engagements.
• • This is a highly visible, technical, customer-facing role. The compensation structure is designed to provide significant acceleration for success, balanced with a competitive base salary, ensuring that credibility and technical accuracy remain paramount.
