📋 Description

• As a Senior Backend Engineer at Ruby Labs Ltd., you will play a critical role in designing, building, and scaling the core backend systems that power Use.ai, an AI-driven consumer product, directly contributing to the company’s mission of delivering innovative solutions across health, education, and entertainment industries.
• Your work will ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of distributed systems that serve users globally, enabling seamless feature delivery and infrastructure excellence in a high-ownership, fast-paced environment.
• You will deliver new backend features with a focus on scalability, performance, and reliability, writing clean, maintainable code aligned with SOLID principles and backend best practices while collaborating closely with the development team to maintain consistency and quality across projects.
• You will maintain, optimize, and improve existing services and infrastructure, including designing, deploying, and operating backend services across AWS, Cloudflare, and other environments, ensuring systems remain resilient and efficient under evolving demands.
• You will implement and evolve monitoring and observability using tools such as Sentry, OpenTelemetry (OTel), logging, and alerting platforms, enabling proactive detection and resolution of issues across distributed systems.
• You will investigate and resolve production issues, lead incident investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and drive system reliability improvements to minimize downtime and enhance user experience.
• You will contribute to architectural decisions, documentation, and infrastructure planning, helping shape the long-term technical direction of the platform while mentoring peers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• You will collaborate with high standards for communication, ownership, and delivery, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence within a distributed team operating across CET-aligned timezones.
• You will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and observability at scale, gaining hands-on experience with advanced AWS services, Cloudflare Workers, Redis optimization, and modern tracing frameworks—positioning you as a leader in backend engineering.

🎯 Requirements

• Deep expertise in distributed systems, system design, and backend architecture, with proven ability to design scalable and resilient systems.
• Fluency in Node.js backend development and strong grasp of software engineering principles, including SOLID, with experience writing clean, maintainable code.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and backend service deployment, including strong knowledge of AWS services (compute, serverless, networking, storage, security, infrastructure-as-code) and Cloudflare Workers, edge routing, caching, and security primitives.
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability using tools such as Sentry and OpenTelemetry (OTel), including tracing, logging, and alerting, along with deep knowledge of Redis for caching, pub/sub, queues, replication, persistence, and performance tuning.
• Proven ability to debug complex issues in production environments and lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and system reliability improvements.
• Comfortable working in a timezone within ±2 hours of UK time (aligned with CET ±4 hours) to ensure effective collaboration.
