📋 Description

• As a Senior Backend Engineer at Gorilla, you will play a pivotal role in designing and scaling the data platform that powers critical decisions for energy companies worldwide, directly contributing to the acceleration of the global energy transition through high-performance, data-intensive SaaS solutions.
• You will lead architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and influence technical direction while building distributed systems that handle large volumes of energy data efficiently and securely, ensuring reliability and performance in high-load environments.

• In this role, you will design and build scalable APIs and data systems supporting pricing, forecasting, and analytics applications, taking ownership of critical components and evolving them with business needs.
• You will drive cross-functional technical initiatives, collaborating closely with Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Engineers to ensure alignment and broad impact across the product ecosystem.
• Through mentoring, design reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing, you will foster technical growth and best practices across the team, helping to raise the overall engineering bar.
• You will contribute to strategic planning by helping define roadmaps and long-term technical vision in partnership with engineering leadership, influencing how systems are built and scaled.
• You will take ownership of DevOps pipelines, observability, and platform reliability, ensuring systems are maintainable, monitorable, and resilient under real-world conditions.
• You will apply deep expertise in Python, relational databases, and distributed systems to solve complex problems involving consistency, availability, and partition tolerance in data-heavy workloads.
• Your work will directly impact the scalability and performance of Gorilla’s platform, enabling energy clients to make faster, more informed decisions in their journey toward sustainability.

🎯 Requirements

• Expertise in Python, including modern software design patterns, testing practices, and performance optimization for high-throughput systems.
• Extensive experience with relational databases and data modeling in SaaS or data-intensive environments.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems design, including trade-offs in consistency, availability, and partition tolerance (CAP theorem).
• Proven experience working on high-load backends, preferably in cloud-native SaaS platforms.
• Familiarity with AWS, infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation), and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS).
• Strong architectural intuition with the ability to drive clarity in ambiguous, complex technical situations.
• Leadership experience through mentoring, leading technical initiatives, or shaping engineering practices across teams.
• Experience in defining and improving DevOps pipelines, observability tools, and platform reliability practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build alignment across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive and pragmatic mindset, balancing technical excellence with delivery impact and business outcomes.
