- • As a Senior Backend Engineer with an AI focus at Deel, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of global work by building intelligent backend services that power AI-driven features within our industry-leading payroll and HR platform, directly impacting how millions of workers across 150+ countries are paid, compliant, and supported.
- • You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems using JavaScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL to integrate AI capabilities into core payroll workflows, enabling smarter automation, anomaly detection, and intelligent document processing at scale.
- • Collaborating closely with ML engineers, product teams, and operations, you will help translate cutting-edge AI research into production-ready tools—such as AI-powered chatbots, conversational interfaces, and prompt-driven workflows—that enhance user experience and operational efficiency.
- • You will work with unstructured and messy data sources (including CSV, PDF, and Excel files), building robust ETL pipelines to extract, clean, and structure data for AI model consumption, ensuring high-quality inputs for accurate AI outputs.
- • Your role will involve integrating and orchestrating third-party AI APIs (such as OpenAI, Gemini, or Anthropic) into Deel’s infrastructure, managing API performance, cost, latency, and reliability while adhering to strict security and compliance standards.
- • You will contribute to the evolution of Deel’s AI strategy by experimenting with prompt engineering techniques, evaluating model outputs, and iterating on AI workflows to improve accuracy, fairness, and usability in real-world HR and payroll contexts.

🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack engineering, with a proven track record of building and scaling production systems
- • Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL, including experience designing RESTful APIs and optimizing database performance
- • Demonstrated hands-on experience integrating AI APIs (such as OpenAI, Gemini, or Anthropic) into production applications, including handling authentication, rate limiting, and error management
- • Solid understanding of ETL pipelines and comfort working with unstructured or messy data formats like CSV, PDF, and Excel
- • Experience with prompt engineering fundamentals and building AI-powered features such as chatbots, conversational interfaces, or document parsing systems
