- • We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Features team at Better Places, where you will be responsible for building and taking end-to-end ownership of new features across our Kotlin-based backend microservices.
- • You will be deploying features and scaling systems via Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and partnering with product owners, fellow engineers, and cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, clear blockers, and drive initiatives forward.
- • You will be jumping into a dynamic team environment to refine our engineering practices and actively shape a tribe and product transformation as we evolve our backend architecture for the future.
- • You will be looking beyond existing solutions to actively identify architectural bottlenecks and drive meaningful improvements.
- • Our Tech Stack includes Backend Services: Kotlin, Spring Boot, Relational Databases (PostgreSQL), AWS (ECS, SQS, Eventbridge, EC2), Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi).
- • You will be working in a hybrid mode, with weekly team days for better collaboration and nurturing interpersonal connections.
- • You will be working in a modern, kid- and pet-friendly Better Space in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg.
- • You will be remote working from anywhere for up to 12 weeks in total per year.
- • You will be enjoying 30 vacation days in a 5-day/week working model.

🎯 Requirements
- • A background in computer science and software engineering, including a minimum of 3 years of backend experience.
- • Proficiency in Kotlin or deep production experience in Java with a strong affinity for Kotlin, along with frameworks like Spring Boot and build tools like Gradle.
- • Skilled in architectural design, specifically building fault-tolerant, high-throughput distributed systems.
- • Hands-on cloud experience with AWS and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Pulumi.
