- • Design, build, and scale backend systems that power Raya’s recommendation engine, ensuring high availability, low latency, and robust performance under growing user demand.
- • Lead the architecture of distributed services that process real-time user interactions to deliver personalized, context-aware recommendations.
- • Collaborate closely with product, data, and frontend teams to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions that enhance user engagement and retention.
- • Own end-to-end development cycles for critical backend components, from requirement gathering and design to deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvement.
- • Implement and maintain clean, testable, and well-documented codebases using industry best practices, with a focus on maintainability and team scalability.
- • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving.
- • Drive operational excellence by designing monitoring, alerting, and incident response systems that minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
- • Optimize data pipelines and storage solutions to support real-time recommendation logic with high throughput and low latency requirements.
- • Participate in on-call rotations to support production systems, respond to incidents, and improve system resilience based on real-world usage patterns.
- • Champion the adoption of new technologies and patterns that improve system performance, developer velocity, and team productivity.
- • Contribute to technical roadmap planning by identifying bottlenecks, proposing architectural improvements, and aligning engineering efforts with company growth goals.
- • Uphold Raya’s mission by ensuring backend systems enable meaningful, in-person human connections through thoughtful, privacy-conscious recommendation logic.
- • Stay current with evolving backend engineering trends and evaluate their applicability to Raya’s unique scale and user behavior patterns.
- • Work autonomously in a remote-first environment while maintaining strong communication, accountability, and alignment with team objectives.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer
- • Proven track record of designing and scaling distributed systems for high-traffic applications
- • Expertise in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js)
- • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)
- • Strong understanding of database systems (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling for recommendation systems
- • Demonstrated leadership in technical projects, including mentoring junior engineers and driving architectural decisions
