đź“‹ Description
- • As a Senior Backend Engineer at Checkly Group Inc., you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the reliability and performance of developer-facing tools used by engineering teams at companies like 1Password, CrowdStrike, and Vercel. Your work will directly impact how developers monitor, test, and observe their applications from code commit to production, ensuring systems stay resilient at scale.
- • You will harden and expand Checkly’s backend infrastructure, which processes over 2.5 billion checks globally, by evolving the uptime monitoring platform, designing APIs for observability data, and scaling systems to meet growing enterprise demand.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include owning and evolving the uptime monitoring platform to help customers observe and protect critical infrastructure at scale; collaborating with infrastructure teams to deploy and manage a ClickHouse instance for capturing check run logs and metadata; designing and implementing APIs that enable customers to run custom reports on their monitoring data; troubleshooting complex issues in private location environments alongside customers; enhancing the status pages product to achieve industry-leading reliability, transparency, and real-time communication; and contributing to backend scalability efforts while participating in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 system stability.
- • You will join Team Tree, a small, high-autonomy squad focused on enterprise enablement, where your work spans uptime monitoring (TCP, DNS, URL, ICMP), Private Locations, RBAC, entitlements, and multi-account management — all critical to serving large organizations.
- • The team operates with loose plans and fast execution, embracing changing priorities common in enterprise environments, giving you end-to-end ownership of problems and the opportunity to ship solutions that unblock real customer workflows.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, observability, and SaaS backend architectures while working across TypeScript and Go stacks; gain hands-on experience with modern tools like ClickHouse, AWS, and OpenTelemetry; and grow your impact in a transparent, async-first culture that values documentation, product quality, and customer collaboration.
- • You will also strengthen your ability to work autonomously in a remote setting, improve cross-functional communication, and contribute to a culture where learning is encouraged through a $1,500 annual learning and wellness budget and regular knowledge sharing.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep experience building applications in a professional SaaS product environment, with strong proficiency in TypeScript (experience with Go is a plus, as the platform uses both languages).
- • Proven background in building distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or bare metal server infrastructure.
- • Genuine interest in developer tooling and familiarity with testing frameworks such as Playwright.
- • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English, with a collaborative mindset and assumption of good intentions.
- • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and stay self-motivated in a remote, async-first environment.
- • Passion for learning new technologies and contributing across the stack, with enthusiasm for solving complex backend challenges.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Transparent, competitive salary ranging from €88k–€107k (UK/Germany market equivalent) or €79k–€97k (Spain/Poland/Ukraine market equivalent), determined by a standardized salary calculator.
- • 27 days of paid vacation per year, plus local public holidays.
- • $1,500 annual learning, visiting, and wellness budget for professional development and personal growth.
- • Paid sick leave and up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave.
- • Stock options as part of compensation.
- • Co-working budget or home office setup support.
- • Bi-annual company retreats to foster connection and alignment.
- • Remote-first, async-first culture with flexible hours and low meeting load, designed for high productivity and inclusivity.
