Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby Go)

📋 Description

• • Architect and scale the heart of Appodeal’s monetization engine, processing billions of ad requests per day across 100K+ mobile apps worldwide. You will own the design, implementation, and optimization of Ruby on Rails and Go micro-services that power real-time bidding, user segmentation, and revenue analytics.
• • Lead the evolution of our data-intensive backend stack: refactor legacy Rails monoliths into resilient Go services, introduce event-driven patterns with Kafka, and fine-tune PostgreSQL and ClickHouse clusters to deliver sub-second query performance on terabyte-scale datasets.
• • Build and maintain mission-critical ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, transform, and enrich 5 TB of daily event data from SDKs, ad networks, and attribution partners. Your code will directly influence how quickly publishers see revenue, detect fraud, and optimize ad placements.
• • Collaborate with cross-functional squads in Barcelona, Warsaw, and Virginia (and fully-remote colleagues from 15 countries) to translate product vision into technical blueprints. You will run architecture guilds, review RFCs, and mentor mid-level engineers through pair programming and design sessions.
• • Champion observability and reliability: instrument services with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry; define SLOs/SLAs; and participate in a blameless on-call rotation that keeps our 99.9 % uptime record intact while continuously reducing MTTR.
• • Drive cost-efficiency and performance tuning initiatives—profile Ruby and Go code, optimize SQL execution plans, leverage columnar storage tricks in ClickHouse, and negotiate cloud resource commitments to shave milliseconds and dollars off every request.
• • Contribute to open-source projects and internal libraries that the wider engineering community depends on. Whether it’s releasing a Go Kafka client, a Rails performance patch, or a ClickHouse schema migration tool, your work will extend beyond Appodeal’s walls.
• • Stay ahead of the curve: evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., Rust for ultra-low-latency paths, DuckDB for ad-hoc analytics) and run proof-of-concepts that could give our publishers a competitive edge in the ever-changing ad-tech landscape.
• • Foster a culture of continuous learning by hosting lunch-and-learns, writing internal tech blogs, and curating a shared knowledge base that helps every engineer level-up faster.
