📋 Description

• As a Senior Backend Software Engineer at Trading 212 UK Ltd., you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the high-performance, scalable backend systems that power a platform serving over 5 million clients and managing more than €30 billion in assets under management. Your work directly enables individuals across Europe to build wealth through innovative, reliable, and user-centric trading and investing products, making your contributions foundational to the company’s mission of democratizing financial access.
• You will take full ownership of the software development lifecycle for microservices, from gathering requirements and designing solutions to coding, testing, deploying, and monitoring in production. This includes developing resilient, low-latency services using Java 17/Spring, Go, or Node.js/TypeScript, ensuring optimal performance under high load, and continuously improving code quality through refactoring and technical excellence within autonomous, agile teams.
• You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineers in compact, autonomous teams that operate with short release cycles, fostering a culture of rapid iteration, honest feedback, and shared learning. Your expertise will help shape architectural decisions around communication protocols (HTTP/WebSockets/AMQP), database design (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, TimescaleDB, ClickHouse), and event-driven systems using Apache Kafka, all while maintaining system resilience and data integrity.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience developing services in a microservice architecture, with familiarity in managing and evolving systems composed of 200+ services.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language/framework from the stack: Java 17 with Spring, Go, or Node.js with TypeScript, including production-level coding, testing, and deployment.
• Solid understanding of relational database principles, including indexing, transactions, isolation levels, and locking mechanisms, with practical experience designing high-performance schemas in PostgreSQL or MariaDB.
• Comfort working with asynchronous communication protocols such as HTTP/WebSockets and AMQP, including the ability to select the appropriate mechanism based on use case.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration concepts, along with familiarity in CI/CD pipelines using Git and GitLab.
• Background in computer science or equivalent practical experience, demonstrating strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and system design.
