📋 Description

• As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on the GRC Policies team at Vanta, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of a product that helps organizations continuously monitor, manage, and prove their security and compliance posture—directly supporting Vanta’s mission to help businesses earn and prove trust in an era where trust is paramount.
• You will design and evolve scalable backend systems that power policy creation, lifecycle management, and AI-enhanced workflows, enabling customers to automate and streamline complex GRC processes while ensuring technical excellence and long-term maintainability.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing intuitive, AI-ready APIs from first principles that serve both human developers and autonomous agents; making strategic trade-offs between business goals, user experience, and system sustainability; mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing; leading cross-functional technical initiatives from concept to delivery; and advocating for engineering best practices that elevate quality across teams.
• You will collaborate closely with product, security, and AI specialists to integrate emerging technologies—particularly applied AI—into core GRC workflows, ensuring innovations are both impactful and responsibly implemented.

• You will also grow as a technical leader, influencing team norms, improving delivery predictability, and helping scale Vanta’s engineering organization as it serves thousands of customers globally.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in backend software engineering
• Proven track record designing and implementing clean, scalable internal APIs and services
• Hands-on proficiency with TypeScript, GraphQL, and MongoDB
• Demonstrated success leading complex technical projects from inception to production
• Strong product mindset with ability to empathize with users and iterate based on feedback
• Experience building systems across both early-stage (0 to 1) and scaling (1 to 10) phases
• Genuine interest or prior experience in applying AI to product development
