- • The Senior Clinical Variant Scientist will lead efforts to improve genetic diagnosis of limb girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) by interpreting genetic variants and supporting ClinGen expert panels.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing genetic variation from clinical testing, integrating evidence to assess clinical significance, developing variant classification guidelines, training junior scientists, and ensuring quality control in genomic workflows.
- • The role is based within Washington University in St. Louis’ neuromuscular genetics research team, supporting translational research and clinical genomics under the direction of Dr. C. Chris Weihl.
- • The scientist will gain leadership experience in genomic curation, contribute to research publications and grants, and develop expertise in ClinGen frameworks while advancing neuromuscular disease diagnostics.
🎯 Requirements
- • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline
- • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in genetic variant analysis or related field
- • Expertise in next generation sequencing (NGS) and clinical genomic testing workflows
- • Strong skills in data analysis, scientific communication, and technical writing
- • Ability to train and supervise junior staff and lead expert panel activities
- • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with clinical databases and genetic research
