Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and own the next-generation cloud platform that powers millions of NETGEAR devices and subscription services, ensuring 24/7 reliability, sub-second latency, and elastic scale across global regions.
- • Design, implement, and continuously evolve Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK, Terraform, and CloudFormation to provision and manage multi-account, multi-region AWS environments that are secure, compliant, and cost-optimized.
- • Build and operate serverless microservices in Node.js, TypeScript, Java, or Go (Go is a plus) that handle device telemetry, user authentication, firmware updates, and real-time analytics for an IoT fleet measured in tens of millions.
- • Create event-driven integrations between cloud services, mobile apps, and embedded firmware teams using AWS Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, and Kinesis to deliver seamless, cloud-connected experiences to end users.
- • Establish and maintain comprehensive observability with Datadog, AppDynamics, or New Relic—defining SLIs/SLOs, distributed tracing, anomaly detection, and automated alerting to achieve 99.9 %+ uptime.
- • Drive DevOps excellence by authoring GitHub Actions or Jenkins pipelines that automate build, test, security scanning, and deployment stages, enabling multiple daily releases with zero-downtime blue/green or canary strategies.
- • Champion responsible use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code to accelerate feature delivery while enforcing rigorous code reviews, automated tests, and security gates.
- • Collaborate daily with cross-functional squads—mobile, web, product, and embedded—to translate product roadmaps into technical epics, provide accurate estimates, and deliver features that delight customers and differentiate NETGEAR in the market.
- • Lead threat-modeling sessions and embed AWS security best practices (IAM least privilege, KMS encryption, VPC segmentation, WAF, GuardDuty) into every layer of the stack to protect user data and maintain SOC 2 / ISO 27001 compliance.
- • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through design reviews, pair programming, and brown-bag sessions, fostering a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and high performance.
- • Own the full lifecycle of services from ideation and architecture diagrams through load testing, production rollout, on-call rotation, and iterative optimization based on real-world telemetry and customer feedback.
- • Contribute to NETGEAR’s new Centre of Excellence in Cork by shaping technical standards, evaluating emerging cloud services, and presenting quarterly tech talks that influence engineering strategy across the global organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of backend or cloud engineering experience designing and operating large-scale, production-grade AWS environments.
- • Expert-level proficiency in at least one of: Node.js, TypeScript, or Java; working knowledge of Go is a strong plus.
- • Hands-on mastery of AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, RDS, ECS, and CloudWatch, plus IaC tools such as AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
- • Proven experience with observability platforms (Datadog, AppDynamics, or New Relic) and defining SLIs/SLOs for high-availability systems.
- • Demonstrated use of AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and the judgment to apply them responsibly without compromising security or quality.
- • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; excellent problem-solving and ownership mindset.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Hybrid work model—three days in NETGEAR’s brand-new Cork European HQ with ergonomic workspaces and state-of-the-art labs, two days remote for work-life balance.
- • Competitive salary, annual bonus, and equity participation so you share directly in NETGEAR’s growth and success.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your family, plus income protection and life assurance.
- • Generous annual leave, paid volunteer days, and a personal learning & development budget to attend conferences, pursue certifications, or buy books and courses.
