- • The Senior Coder - Validation Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring coding accuracy, compliance, and quality within the Clinical Documentation department at BMC Software, Inc., directly supporting coding managers in evaluating and improving coding functions across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing coder performance, identifying education and training needs, developing training materials in collaboration with CDCI Coding Trainer and Educator, overseeing education plan administration, evaluating training effectiveness, providing feedback to coding managers, and recommending disciplinary actions when warranted based on validation findings.
- • The role operates within the Clinical Documentation team, which focuses on maintaining high standards in medical coding integrity, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement through education and performance management.
- • In this position, the individual will develop expertise in coding validation, regulatory analysis, training design, and performance improvement methodologies, while gaining leadership experience in overseeing coder education initiatives and contributing to organizational coding quality and compliance goals.
🎯 Requirements
- • Associates Degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a medical coding/healthcare-related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience); Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- • Minimum of one active certification from: CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA; minimum of two certifications preferred
- • At least five years of coding experience in inpatient or outpatient settings within an acute hospital environment
- • Experience in coding validation, teaching, or tertiary care facility preferred; supervisory experience highly desirable
- • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills; highly organized with project/task management abilities
- • Knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific coding regulations, documentation requirements, and billing guidelines; experience with EM Encoder/Grouper, SMART software, or coding denial management preferred
