• • As a Senior Counsel, Product, you will be instrumental in shaping the legal framework for Coinbase's innovative Base Layer 2 blockchain, a critical component of the company's mission to build the future global financial system.
• • You will provide comprehensive legal guidance throughout the entire product lifecycle, from conception and planning through development, launch, and ongoing operations, ensuring that all initiatives align with legal requirements and business objectives.
• • A key aspect of your role will involve supporting the Base grants ecosystem, overseeing the legal processes associated with funding and nurturing innovative projects that contribute to the growth and development of the Base network.
• • You will facilitate the seamless integration of both Coinbase-native and third-party products and services within the Base ecosystem, conducting thorough due diligence, developing robust compliance policies, and offering expert advice on risk management strategies.
• • This role demands a proactive and business-oriented approach, where you will act as a strategic partner to product teams, anticipating challenges and creatively solving complex legal and regulatory issues.
• • You will be expected to "look around corners," identifying potential legal hurdles and developing proactive solutions to enable the business to execute its product roadmap effectively and efficiently.
• • Collaboration is paramount; you will work closely with a diverse range of internal stakeholders, including Compliance, Communications, Finance, Tax, Security, Enterprise Risk Management, Engineering, Data, Analytics, Corporate Development, and senior leadership, as well as external counsel when necessary.
• • You will be responsible for responding promptly and effectively to a wide array of complex legal requests, coordinating closely with other members of the Coinbase legal team to ensure the timely delivery of practical and insightful advice.
• • Operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, you must be adept at pivoting quickly to meet evolving leadership needs and business priorities.
• • A significant part of your contribution will involve scaling your legal advice and processes, enabling the business to grow efficiently and achieve more with fewer resources.
• • You will play a vital role in ensuring that Base products and integrations comply with all relevant legal standards and regulatory expectations, including those related to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, as well as regulated e-money and money transmission obligations.
• • Your expertise will be crucial in navigating the unique legal and regulatory landscape of crypto protocols and onchain products, understanding how decentralized architectures and onchain workflows impact product design, governance, and compliance.
• • You will contribute to building the legal foundation that supports Base's ambitious onchain mission and strategic objectives, ensuring a compliant and sustainable ecosystem.
