đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Data Engineer at Blockworks, you will be at the forefront of shaping our data infrastructure, playing a pivotal role in transforming complex information into actionable insights that power our suite of products. This is a unique opportunity to lead the design, development, and execution of our data models and strategies, directly impacting how investors, operators, and institutions navigate the dynamic crypto industry. You will be instrumental in building the data foundation that enables transparency, confidence, and better decision-making for our users.
  • • You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of our data sourcing pipelines. This involves architecting our data warehousing solutions, designing robust ingestion processes, and leveraging multiple SDKs to aggregate diverse data streams into Blockworks' proprietary data warehouse. Your expertise will ensure that we can efficiently and reliably collect the raw data necessary to fuel our analytical and product needs.
  • • A core responsibility will be designing and implementing our comprehensive ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) solutions. This includes developing strategies for accessing and setting up blockchain nodes to pull critical on-chain data, sourcing information from various third-party providers, and meticulously modeling our internal schemas across our PostgreSQL and Clickhouse databases. Your work will ensure data is not only collected but also structured for optimal performance and analysis.
  • • You will act as a technical leader and mentor for the engineering team, fostering a culture of shared knowledge and best practices. This involves providing guidance, assistance, and architectural oversight in the implementation of established data designs and frameworks, helping to elevate the overall technical capabilities of the team.
  • • Driving operational efficiency is paramount. You will continuously seek out and implement opportunities to refine our data workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and enhance the reliability and scalability of our data infrastructure. This proactive approach will free up valuable engineering time and ensure the smooth operation of our data systems.
  • • Cross-functional collaboration will be a daily aspect of your role. You will work closely with Research, Product, and other Engineering teams to understand their data needs, lead data-centric initiatives, and ensure seamless integration of data solutions across the organization. Your ability to translate business requirements into technical data strategies will be key to driving project success.
  • • The fast-paced, experimental nature of Blockworks means you must be comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration. You will be encouraged to explore new technologies, experiment with different approaches, and adapt quickly to evolving market demands and business priorities. This role requires a blend of intentionality, sustainability, and scalability in your engineering approach.
  • • You will be responsible for building backend systems at scale, with a specific emphasis on data processing and ingestion. This hands-on experience will be crucial in developing and maintaining the high-throughput data pipelines required by our growing platform.
  • • Your role will involve deep engagement with modern data orchestration tools, ensuring that our data pipelines are managed efficiently and reliably. This includes leveraging tools to schedule, monitor, and manage complex data workflows.
  • • You will contribute to the development and maintenance of production-grade data pipelines using SQL transformation frameworks. This ensures data quality, consistency, and reusability across various analytical and product use cases.
  • • You will be a key player in scaling our data warehouses to handle massive volumes of data, potentially exceeding 100 million rows per day, ensuring performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • • You will leverage your expertise in DevOps tools and cloud solutions to build, deploy, and manage our data infrastructure in a scalable and resilient manner.
  • • Your passion for software engineering will be channeled into creating elegant, efficient, and maintainable data solutions that directly contribute to Blockworks' mission of providing clarity and confidence in the crypto industry.
  • • You will be a player-coach, balancing hands-on technical contributions with leadership and guidance for the team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing engineering environment.
  • • You will be instrumental in developing digital product pipelines, ensuring a smooth and reliable release process for data-driven features and improvements.
  • • You will contribute to the overall technical strategy for data at Blockworks, helping to define best practices and future-proof our data architecture.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Deep understanding and significant knowledge of the crypto industry; considered crypto-native.
  • • Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in data modeling, schema design, data operations, and data warehousing, with a proven track record of building backend systems at scale focused on data processing and ingestion.
  • • Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, and/or Typescript, coupled with exceptional SQL expertise (ideally with Parquet, Postgres, and Clickhouse).
  • • Experience with DevOps tools and cloud solutions such as Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or GCP.
  • • Hands-on experience with modern data orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster) and SQL transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt, SQLMesh).

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Remote-First Work Environment: Enjoy the flexibility of working from anywhere, with an optional office space in NYC.
  • • Comprehensive Health Coverage: 100% medical coverage for employees, with significant coverage for dental, vision, and dependents.

  • • Paid Parental Leave: 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all team members.
  • • Hardware Stipend: A budget to purchase the tools and technology you need to be productive.
  • • Learning & Growth Stipend: An annual allowance for professional development, courses, and skill enhancement.
