Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect and implement robust, petabyte-scale data pipelines that ingest, process, synchronize, and package multi-modal robotics data—LiDAR point clouds, high-resolution camera feeds, IMU streams, proprietary HD maps, and real-time sensor metadata—for both internal ML teams and external commercial partners.
- • Own the end-to-end design and delivery of a data processing and egress platform that guarantees strict partner SLAs, ensuring that curated datasets are delivered on time, every time, while maintaining sub-second freshness for critical autonomy features.
- • Establish and enforce data lifecycle policies that automatically tier, archive, or purge data to keep cloud storage costs predictable and sustainable as the Serve fleet scales from hundreds to thousands of robots.
- • Build and continuously evolve a universal data catalogue that indexes every byte of raw robot data with rich, searchable metadata, enabling ML engineers to discover, preview, and provision training datasets in minutes instead of days.
- • Develop cost monitoring, attribution, and alerting systems that give finance and engineering leaders real-time visibility into spend by dataset, partner, and pipeline stage—turning data economics from a black box into a strategic lever.
- • Create a data discoverability platform powered by ML-generated attributes (e.g., scene complexity, weather conditions, pedestrian density) and backed by highly scalable search indexes, so researchers can ask complex questions like “find all dusk-time intersections with occluded crosswalks in the last 30 days” and get results instantly.
- • Implement bullet-proof security controls and access audit trails through Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Pulumi, or similar), ensuring that sensitive robot data is protected by least-privilege IAM policies, VPC Service Controls, and customer-managed encryption keys.
- • Design lineage maps and traceability APIs that expose full provenance from raw sensor capture to final labeled dataset, giving ML engineers confidence in data quality and regulatory teams the evidence they need for compliance.
- • Collaborate daily with autonomy, perception, and ML teams to understand evolving data requirements, then translate those needs into scalable architecture decisions that accelerate model iteration and reduce time-to-deployment for new robot behaviors.
- • Champion best practices in data engineering—schema evolution, idempotent pipelines, automated testing, CI/CD for data workflows—while mentoring junior engineers and raising the technical bar across the entire organization.
- • Contribute to the open-source data ecosystem where appropriate, sharing innovations that help the broader robotics and ML communities while strengthening Serve Robotics’ reputation as a thought leader.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional experience in software or data engineering roles, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale, production-grade data systems.
- • Strong programming proficiency in Python and SQL; ability to write clean, testable, and performant code in a collaborative codebase.
- • Hands-on experience building and maintaining terabyte- to petabyte-scale data processing pipelines using cloud-native technologies (e.g., Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage on GCP or equivalents on AWS/Azure).
- • Solid understanding of ETL/ELT concepts, data warehousing patterns, and distributed systems design, including trade-offs between batch and streaming architectures.
- • Deep knowledge of data privacy, security best practices, and regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA) as applied to large-scale data platforms.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a well-funded, fast-growing startup that is defining the future of sidewalk robotics.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, plus a 401(k) with company match to secure your long-term future.
- • Flexible PTO policy and remote-friendly culture that respects work-life balance while still fostering tight-knit collaboration through quarterly off-sites in Los Angeles.
- • Annual learning & development stipend, conference budget, and dedicated hack-weeks to explore new technologies and turn wild ideas into production features.
