- • Join CompassX Consulting, a distinguished boutique business and technology firm renowned for empowering Fortune 500 and high-growth clients to achieve their most critical strategic objectives. With a legacy spanning over 15 years, we have consistently delivered exceptional results across diverse industries, including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick-service restaurants. Our commitment to excellence has earned us prestigious accolades, including three-time recognition as one of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, a "Best Place to Work" in Southern California, and a spot on INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.
- • We are actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer, operating as an independent contractor, to lend their expertise to a variety of exciting client projects. These engagements span the entire spectrum of data maturity, from establishing robust data environments from the ground up to optimizing and enhancing existing sophisticated data infrastructures. This role is designed for a hands-on professional who thrives on direct delivery and is eager to make a significant impact on high-stakes initiatives.
- • As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in provisioning and configuring new Snowflake environments, ensuring they are optimized for performance, scalability, and security. Your responsibilities will extend to the development and meticulous optimization of dbt (data build tool) pipelines, ensuring data transformation processes are efficient, reliable, and maintainable. A core aspect of your role will involve strengthening the foundational data architecture for commercial-scale analytics, enabling clients to derive actionable insights from their data assets.
- • This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with clients at various critical junctures. You might be supporting clients in the launch of newly independent entities, requiring the establishment of entirely new data ecosystems. Alternatively, you could be involved in modernizing complex legacy platforms, migrating them to state-of-the-art cloud-based solutions. Another significant area of contribution will be scaling analytics capabilities for clients experiencing rapid growth, ensuring their data infrastructure can keep pace with evolving business demands.
- • You will be an integral part of a collaborative team, working closely with seasoned CompassX consultants and key client stakeholders. These projects are technically demanding and sit at the very heart of critical business decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong capacity for execution, demonstrating sound architectural judgment and the flexibility to navigate seamlessly between greenfield development scenarios and the complexities of established, evolving enterprise environments.
- • Your day-to-day will involve designing, building, and deploying scalable data solutions on the Snowflake platform. This includes developing robust ETL/ELT processes, implementing data quality checks, and ensuring data governance best practices are followed. You will be responsible for translating business requirements into technical specifications and delivering data solutions that meet and exceed client expectations.
- • A significant portion of your work will involve leveraging dbt for data modeling and transformation. This entails writing modular, well-documented SQL code, managing data lineage, and implementing testing strategies to ensure data accuracy and reliability. You will contribute to the overall data strategy, advising clients on best practices for data warehousing, data modeling, and data analytics.
- • You will also play a key role in performance tuning and optimization of Snowflake workloads, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing solutions to improve query performance and reduce costs. This may involve optimizing data structures, managing warehouse configurations, and implementing efficient data loading strategies.
- • Collaboration is paramount. You will engage in regular communication with project managers, business analysts, and other data professionals to ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables. You will also be expected to mentor junior team members and share your knowledge and expertise within the team and with clients.
- • The ability to troubleshoot complex data issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions is crucial. You will be expected to stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the data engineering space, particularly within the Snowflake ecosystem, and apply this knowledge to client projects.
- • This role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, a commitment to delivering high-quality work, and the ability to manage your time effectively in a remote, independent contractor setting. You will be a trusted advisor, helping clients unlock the full potential of their data to drive business value and achieve strategic success.
