- • Senior Data Scientist role focused on building machine learning models for credit eligibility and pricing across five African markets, directly shaping lending strategy for millions of underserved customers.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include building and refining credit scoring and risk models, developing ML solutions for loan pricing through A/B testing, improving eligibility criteria via feature engineering and repayment data analysis, and collaborating cross-functionally to deploy models into production.
- • Part of a small, high-performing Credit & Underwriting team at M-KOPA, a mission-driven fintech recognized by TIME 100 and Financial Times for scaling financial inclusion across Africa with over $2 billion in credit delivered to 7+ million customers.
- • Opportunity to advance technical expertise in predictive modeling, feature engineering, and ML deployment while driving real-world impact in financial inclusion, carbon-negative operations, and economic empowerment across emerging markets.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience building predictive models, particularly credit scoring, risk models, or similar classification/regression problems
- • Strong ML background with hands-on experience in model development, validation, deployment, and performance monitoring
- • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and relevant ML libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, numpy) with experience in feature engineering, model selection, and hyperparameter tuning
- • Experience translating complex model outputs into actionable business strategies and stakeholder communications
- • Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and commercial teams
- • Strong data communication skills — written, oral, and visual
